Sorry about the slow update. Ive removed the two small screws, and a small circular plate drops out, but it doesn't release the catch system. :(

Any other ideas Skids?

Why not remove your cap from your existing tank so you can see what else might need removing?

Can you not actuate the catch from the inside...

Worst case scenario sell it.... (to me! :D)

Mav, thats one I havent heard - the lazer key thing - will tell Alan.

The last tank he bought had the same prob - but he phoned around first to find out costs for the replacement lock (not as expensive as he first thought) - and then drilled out the tumblers to get existing one out.

Khu - hope you get it sorted - try here???

Thanks CK. Wanted to try some other clever method before I took to drilling it out. If worst comes to worst, thats what it'll have to be.

You should be able to just push the locking piece in (it's only held in by a spring!) and this should flip the cap up. Works on all the old ones...

It's a different filler cap on the 749/999.... same as the Uglystrada...

There's effectively 2 holes, one for fuel and one for the locking mechanism, which has a plastic cover between the catch/lock and the fuel, I'm guessing if he's managed to get that off from the inside he should have access

antonye 09-Feb-2005 16:35

Ok, I know what you're saying but fundamentally the locking machanisms are exactly the same. Just push on the latch and it should pop up...

JPM 09-Feb-2005 16:49

The problem I see is the cover though will be blocking the lock from underneath, coupled with the fuel pump being right at the back of the tank, near the seat pad

It does look very nasty indeed!
