Ahh, bling. Completely understand now.

RickyX 28-Feb-2005 17:39

Not 100% bling actually..........furriness equates to corrosion damage to protective cad plate which leads to corrosion of structural bolt which leads to (ultimately) failure and "Oh my gawd, no brakes" situation.......

See, always follow the mantra preached by the great guru:

"BLING IS GOOD, BLING IS SHINEY (But also can save you from death)"

:pig:

But wouldn't you rather the cheap bolt corrode than the expensive carrier? I was under the impression that the cadmium is sacrificial.

This post of Shazaam's was linked to from the thread Jasper refers to above and suggests the same.

But, the mantra I like ;)

Yeah, okay, you have a point there. However........if the disc carrier is correctly protected (anodised/painted etc), then that should prevent dissimilar metal contact and the carrier won't corrode.

I dunno, bikes are a bit wierd...in my day job, I would have a head fit if anybody even suggested putting stainless bolts into aluminium structure! Likewise, if anybody suggested putting carbon anywhere near ally I would also do my nut!!
Never mind...just keep chanting the mantra!!

I know a guy who works at Harris Performance who said he can machine 1-2mm off the heads so they will be clear of the speedo.

Dibble 01-Mar-2005 17:42

so need to pop down to B&Q for an orbital sander then ???

adam 01-Mar-2005 17:51

Dibble, that did amuse me, cant stop chuckling. very good.

Going through myself, at the moment, Adam. From previous experience, I'd recommend using torx head as the hex heads are notorious for rounding off when you want to remove them.

I am going for a set of these:

Works about at about 4 quid each. Yes, mostly bling I must admit. If you have any interest we could combine the order.

Felix, are these the same size as the originals? mainly the head size.

Felix 01-Mar-2005 20:45

Yes, at least they are on my bike. Head height is 5 mm, head diameter 13 mm, made by Poggipolini in Italy, official titanium supplier to Ducati Corse. Ordering mine tomorrow.
