Don't forget though that the 996R has higher spec engine internals etc than the 998S so even though they are essentially the same engine they will make their power and torque differently and feel differently.

I would hazard a guess that the R has a close ration gear box as well? Can anyone confirm? So that would make it completely different on the 'ar$eometer' as well.

998R

I reckon as well, the 996R is the more desirable, in terms of championships etc.

We go through this discussion about once every 2 months.

Get either - you won't be dissapointed.

I know which R I would get - the ZX10R ;)

The ZX10R is an animal - far too quick for me!! In a straightline its an absolute missile and when driving out of bends I had to be pretty careful with the throttle and really couldn't use all of the 165bhp on offer ;D ;)

It was interesting to see how many of the prostock / superstock (if that's the right class) boys were testing with these in Cartagena. We even had the BSB Vivaldi ZX10Rs testing just after us.

It seems for the budget racer in the 1000cc class, the ZX10R may be the weapon of choice?

I did manage to have a few laps on Pedro's 749R - If I was to get a Ducati R again, then I might well be heading in that direction, such light turning and just wanted to be revved (which I didn't - honest pedro!!!), very stable and inspired tons of confidence .:o
