Yes Adam I couldnt let Loz get away with it. So Its a JHP slipper with ali standard design plates. "BLING".

Clutches

Its not often we get to give Shazzam advice.

But, there is another 48 tooth clutch option on the market beside STM, made in the UK with hard anodised outer and inner baskets etc and is a quality piece of kit, in its slipper version it is a considerable amount cheaper than the STM item.

However, the reduced mass offered by an aftermarket clutch alone is not very significant because the clutch turns once for every four revolutions of the flywheel. Consequently, it is accelerated one quarter as quickly as the flywheel, so rotational weight reduction at the flywheel, gram-for-gram, will give you four times the effect as weight reduction at the clutch.

Really? primary drive ratio is around 2:1 on most ducatis.. so once every twice it should be, clutch runs at half rpm compared to the crank.. (or thereabout)

I believed him ! As far as I am concerned it just wears to quickly. After that its all well over my head :o

I bought a 48t non-slipper STM clutch off nelly a couple of weeks ago, and very nice it is too (so quiet!).

But I must say I was surprised to find the plates were steel, not ally (ally basket, though).

Just have to see how long it lasts. I'm sure it'll be a lot longer than a stock one, though.

Sorry, you're right of course. The clutch turns once for every two revolutions of the flywheel so it stores four times less kinetic energy (I x omega-squared) given the roughly same diameters, pound-for-pound. Thanks.

Mike, do you have a link that shows this home-grown 48-tooth clutch?

Sorry, I just could not resist.. hehe. But you are right about the cinetic energy, I never thought about it in that way before.. (I better dig out the physics books from school)

I do believe Neil from Sigma was offering DSC members some good deals.
I will try the JHP and if I dont like it the next will be the Sgma one.
