I've had a few figures quoted for the repair, but until the bikes stripped down, a accurate price is not available yet. I will probably stick with geoff and john baines, since they have allways done a 1st class job on my previous dukes. prices all seem to be between 3-4k (approx) to repair it as original, if all parts can be obtained. They have said it may take some time to source parts alone, before they can do the work. I really did'nt need this added problem in my life at the moment, but it's happened , and there's not alot I can do about it now. The question in my mind now is this. On the basis of what the bike cost me, plus extra costs involved getting over here etc. Do I get the SPS repaired at whatever the cost, but will I recoupe that repair cost later on in time with the bikes resale value:puzzled::puzzled: Or do I sell it as is, and recoupe as much as possible, either in one piece or break it up for parts. A tricky one i think, might just give up on bikes full stop now. As much as I love dukes, they seem to be a bottomless pitt of personal expenditure. :(:(:(:(:(:( I'm off for a drink now(i don't drink), but this calls for one. robin |
Hi Robin, I can only just begin to imagine how you must feel........ I remember having a root around on John Hacketts website not long ago and he had some 888 spares up for sale, including parts for the SPS. What items he had and how much they were escapes me, but if you've not already done so it may be worth a call. All I can add is that I get the impression that you were looking for an SPS for a while. Stick with it and make the decision when you don't feel as sick. As soon as you sell it, you'll miss it and wish you hadn't done. Regards, Gary. |
also give Alec Short a ring at proteam ducati(wimbledon) he is an 888 fan/specialist and may have some parts ph number is 0208 947 7555 - good luck - my guess is that you won't recoup the costs for a long time - but you will have a great bike! |
Sorry to hear that Robin. If youve got part numbers ill run a search up on the 851/888 factory clearance list ive got. Dont break it for christs sake !!!! I know it seems like the end of the world now (ive been through EXACTLY the same thing with an expensive car - and you do get over it!), but if you do break it (or even sell it), youll look back in years to come and regret it big time. One mad idea - why not hunt down an SP5 (same motor-ish), nick the engine and break whats left over. The thought of breaking an SP5 saddens me but its survival of the fittest I guess !! Im sure you could recoup some of your money that way and there was a guy on the DOC flirting with the idea of selling his SP5 last month (bucks area). Best of luck - whatever you decide mate Nat |
