To be honest that looks like a home done number and not a factory one. There seems to no consistancy in the size, shape and straightnes of the numbers. The factory ones are done by a machine and therefore reflect that.

I thought the same, Last year I was given to read some ACU paperwork about identifying numbers that had been tampered with and although I can't recall exactly what was on the Ducati page, one theme ran through the whole booklet was the uniform size and spacing of the numbers, You should be able to put a straight edge above or below the frame number and all the digits should be in alignment.

That,s all I need, so I phoned the Police and,
I've got a vehicle check on it. iCarCheck

Reg. 1995
It comes back with the same frame no. But only shows last 6 digits, you have to validate it to get the rest. Cant do that without no. off v5.
It was cat C in 1996
Colour change 1999
Not marked as stolen or stolen recovered
4 former keepers
last change of keeper before the one I got it off 10/2010
Dont know what else to do just send off to Swansea for V5 if its wrong they'll come and take it.
Dont know whether this has something to do with it been written of in 96??

They will only deface the numbers on a CatB to stop it getting back on the road.

Cat C is a fair old whack but still ok for the road and bikes don't require VIC.

I think the current MoT is void after a Cat D/C prang, so once repaired and a new MoT she is good to go...
