My ST4S has over 12k on it now, and is on the original chain. It still looks fine to me. I also normally ride with a pillion, and am not shy on the throttle/brakes. I do have a scottoiler though (since about 3k old) with a dual tip feed (viper ?). I recall someone mentioning in a post of a 'chain guide rail' that bolts in front of the front sprocket, and stops the chain smashing casings if it breaks. I think this might have been in the 996 forum (possibly age996's thread). If I can find the post I'll try to post a link to it here. Has to be a good idea if it saves a lot of trouble for a small outlay. [update] sorry lads, just seen this was discussed in the other thread. Doh ! \I'll head off back to me corner and keep quiet...;) [Edited on 10-8-2005 by John W] |
First chain did 18,000 miles and was pretty well worn by then, although it still looked OK. Now on 26,000 miles with genuine Ducati replacement. Pete |
I ordered one of these chain guides a few weeks back, and went to pick it up on Saturday. P&H told me the part was now discontinued :( Anyone got one they want to part with, or know a dealer with them in stock ? I've tried Nelly already. If I can't get one I might go get some made... Cheers all, John. |
John - if you do find any of the "Chain guides" I will most certainly have one off you. |

Ive tried getting one of those chain guards but to no avail. Was thinking of getting some made too, No doubt plenty of people on here would be interested. |
Has anyone tried JHP? |
Just rang JHP who confirmed the part is no longer available. Same answer - Unless someone has some old stock, no chance in getting one :( I will make a template up and get one made. if it looks okay then I'll get some more made for you guys. Don't hold your breaths though as it won't happen this week... ;) By the way, it will most likely be made out of Zintek, which is zinc plated steel sheet. |
please count me in for one if you are able, please u2u the price and payment details when you are ready. |
Maybe Ducati no longer make them becasue they don't work? |
