Alan

I can't have coolant in it, hence why I have drained it for now!

Sorry Lily, I thought the original quote was you'd replaced the coolant with water.

Yes, have drained all coolant and topped it back up with water for now. Will put coolant back in a few weeks :D

Alan, race bikes ( and bikes used on certain foreign trackdays) are not allowed to run anything other than plain water in the cooling system as antifreeze is seriously slippery if it gets split on the track after a crash.

which is probably why, amongst other reasons, race bikes are more prone to overheating........? :eureka:

related issue: have only had my 748 for a few days and as my last one was nocked after 3 weeks, i didn't get much chance to get to know it, so was just wondering if its coolant temp was normal. in town it goes up to 210 but no further, whilst on the move it stays around 180. is this normal? i just noticed today that the coolant level is low (below minimum - can just see a bit of blue in the bottom of the coolant tank if i look through the forks from the front). naturally, i'll be beating down the door of halfords tomorrow morning!

:D just read the link which answered my question perfectly!

Although having said that, i dont think Yeti did anything to his bike when it took it to a foreign trackday earlier this year.
