Try Hagon they check/repair all wheels....good service too!!:burn: |
Dymag just wrote back to say they dont do X-ray but dye-pen instead, is this really as good as X-ray - I'll have to look it up to find out exactly what it involves. Thanks Berto but having just got a set of springs from Hagon for my Jap trackbike (complete with totally naff instruction) - I think Dymag or a cast wheel specialist is the way to go. Frank |
Sorry JPM forgot toreply - tough luck with Lizzie's wheel - I kind of suspect Magnesium cant be 'repaired' in the same way that Alloy wheels can be (hitting them with something big I suspect). Still - pleanty of MArchi's on Ebay - not seen many Magnesium ones for a while though. Good luck - Frank |

Dye pen will only find flaws that are "surface breaking" i.e they are on the surface. HFEC is also for surface breaking flaws but can detect smaller sized flaws than dye-pen. Ultrasonic can detect flaws beneath the surface but an accurate test piece is required to calibrate the equipment. X-Ray can find flaws beneath the surface. For impact damage that has deformed the section of the wheel, cracks will likely be on the surface. R X |
Cheers - Ricky - better explanation than I can find on the 'net. Frank |
I’ve got my pair of magnesium marchisini's tested through Cresent. Took along time though due to the holiday period of August. Had to have them tested as they were oxidising badly. Came back with a full bill of health. Thing is postage each way is about £75 with insurance. Mind you I have not paid anything yet! [Edited on 13-9-2005 by pacegod] |
Not an issue for me at least as the 11 year old Marchi's I was looking at on Ebay.de went for a lot more than I was prepared to pay - the front had been damaged in a kerb ding and the rear was quite badly oxidised as well. I have a front Marchi already and keep searching for a nice / matching rear as well but have to keep costs down sadly - Ho Hum...maybe one day !!! Cheers - Guys, hope some of the info helps others. Hagons do a dam good job on alloy wheels-I know cause they managed to fix the 5 spoke marchesini that was on the TZ when it hit the wall at Mcleans-'like an exocet missile' according to the marshall. The dent was big enough to break the tyre bead, but the wheel straightened-they use various jigs and a cold pressure hydraulic ram system which they have developed over many years-and it works. The best bit is, if they can't fix the wheel there is no charge. No risk really since the wheel is scrap anyway if they cannot fix it. Bloody strong those alloy marchesini's.................. John |
