The very nice lady taxed it for me no problem, even with only five days MOT remaining.

Cheers for all the advice chaps.

Perhaps you're not as charming and handsome as Paul :D

Ha!

All it says on the paperwork is that the "vehicle must have a valid MOT" which even if it expires tomorrow is the case if i apply for the licence today. I've always tended to have the mot run out very soon after the tax on both the car and the bike and its never been a problem.

If your MOT is valid then its valid, be it with one day to run or 364. The 'lady' Chris dealt with needs bringing to her managers attention as she is incompetent. :puzzled:

I would have to agree with that, how can a jumped up post office worker tell you different, if your stopped by the police and you have a days MOT to run they cant tell you its only got a day to run we are booking you... god it comes to something when your not even legal when your legal, does an MOT have a bearing on a TAX disc ?? what happens when your MOT runs out prior to your TAX disc, do you have to send your TAX disc back ??

I've had the same thing with short MOT when getting tax. Been refused and argued to no avail. I said I had it booked in for an MOT, but needed tax before then as it bridged the end of the month but they dug their heels in.

As for whether you need MOT for getting tax, it's not related exactly but it does give the authorities a way of checking that vehicles do have a valid MOT. That's my understanding anyway. Same with Insurance.

It'll all be academic if they bring in numberplate "spy chips"! Oooops, sorry, that was in MCN so it's probably b*****ks :frog:

MOT's are computerised now so an ANPR check will tell them everything. I don't have any problems with that, all my vehicles are legal (paperwork wise anyhow!!)
