jut had a chat with a mate with the same bike as mine but he´s got a corse superstock ecu with the 12,000 rev limiter and it seems to have solved all his problems and gained power !! the only sore point is as always the price...... bit of a sham on a bike that is so expencive in the first place  |
nathanu, Don't get too hung up on dyno readings, the most important thing is to make sure your bike is running as well as it can. i.e. the air fuel ratio. Power readings can vary from dyno to dyno. The 999r motor can be "tuned" to alter peak power and torque to a certain extent by adjusting the cam timing, "please don't try this at home" is the warning that goes with that though. The 999 motor in my old hat 998r only puts out 134 at the back wheel with open pipes, "race/open pipe" ecu, and cams dialled to standard settings, pipercross in tube filters, The cam timing as it left the factory was around 5 degress out. Putting it to standard improved the low to mid range. I know it's running as well as it can on the OEM ECU and that a Powercommander, new chain and sprockets and a new back tyre will make a difference. Ray |
good points Ray, as you say im not realy chasing the highest BHP reading im after drivability out of corners and compared to my old 999s i must say im struggling compared to last year , i´m down a few seconds a lap at the mo as i cant get a stable throttle through, and out of the corners ??? if i was after pure power figures i would by a K5 or R1 at half the price ( and half the hassle ) im going to take it back on thusday to get it double checked as the ecu light flashed at me the other day again!!!!! |
ecu light comes on in top gear above 160mph (about 9 to 9.5k rpm) :puzzled: posted about this before but no one else has suffered with it, dealer said is ok:puzzled: |
that will be about right then as i was going over 265 kmh.. but it never did it before!!! please dont tell me im going into problem mode with this bike.. the 999s was bad enough!!:puzzled: |
found out the problem with the ecu warning light!!! high speed can, in the right conditions turn the coolant fans and create a back voltage which is in turn sensed by the ecu as a fault |
My bike an 03 with a ti can 57mm full system for an 03:D |

blimey! how did you find that out? :smug: |
i had a good day out at my bike dealer today....!! put the bike on the rooling road again as i want to try to iron out and "problems " before i spend time and money on more tuning parts. got the bike warmed up and did a few runs and to my suprise( not ) the bike was running really rich and that this wasnt helping the hole i had in the power curve |
also asked about he conversion kit for my system( if you see my other post i have a 57mm system i cant use as it dosnt fit my new swinger the origional entry in the DP bible says it a 54mm system but now its been changed into a 57mm system which is handy... heres a pic------- |
