Ive got an old 999s 03 that was new when I got it this year and have to say that if I was in the same boat, ie a 05 bip or a 03 S I would have the S every time, but with you it the 749r or the 05 999s, I would go with the power if I was you, you know it makes sence

The 'S' has around another 20bhp on the older bip.
Man you can really feel the differance in the motor,...very strong at the top end. What a bike!:smug::D

Went from an 03 999 BIP to 06 999s BIP.
Awesome difference, although not too difficult to better in my opinion.

20bhp increase? Wasn't there a comment whereby the 'location' for taking the reading has changed hence such a large jump - i.e. WAS taken from back wheel, NOW taken from crank/sprocket?

IMHO - get the 999s, but I'm biased.

BikeMad said: "I would go with the power if I was you, you know it makes sense". Don't necessarily agree...I've ridden std 759 vs 999 and - depending on where you ride, if you're a trackday fiend, insurance costs etc - I'd go for 749 and use more of it, more of the time.

I went from a 999S to a 749R , no noticable difference in performance other than at the very top end but the smaller engine revs much higher and smoother , lots more fun and involving to ride :) , and mine is an 04 so has ALL the R extras.

As someone else said , you will get an 04 R for the same price as a new S , and regardless of power figures / engine stroke similarities etc and R is an R , less of them , more desirable , do you really need to think about it ?
