sorry to hear that your still having problems kev i'd definately up the ratio to 50:1-- have you had the carbs balanced recently? this may be contributing to the problem if they are out of "synch"-- optimax or equivilant will help definitely help, i have noticed a difference using different fuels---just another thought on induction heaters i wonder if the heating elements from some grip warmers could be utilised in some way?????either wrapped around the inlets or placed in side the airbox-i wonder:eureka: maybe someone around here may have some techy knowledge on that one:D the ones with the adjustable heat control would be right pukka

dseered your not helping much are you;) fell off me chair when i saw that---i reckon your gaff is a bit like "men behaving badly"part 2 mate:sing:

I have a 600ss and had carb icing issues, I tried PSFT and it made no difference at all, no matter the mixture ratio. I then got Nelly at cornerspeed to fit the carb warmers and have not had an issue since. IMHO dont mess about with additives and just get the carb warmers and end the problems.

As an alternative viewpoint to phils, I have carb warmers on my SL. They're as effective as a chocolate teapot. ProFST on the other hand works like a dream.... I also found using optimax or equivalent helped too.

Here's a picture of how the carb heaters are fitted if that helps...

ProFST & Optimax 1st Kev, then if not working.....

phill - a positive reply that they work!!!what air filter/box were you running at the time??? may be a case that they work on the 600ss and maybe not so well on the 900ss's? fiscus are you running open air box etc??

I've got a K&N with a vented airbox lid.

I'm sure Derek looked into putting heater tape (the stuff you use on exposed pipes to stop them freezing) around his carbs/manifolds. Don't know if he actually did it in the end but might be worth a U2u.

Well Ill give the cheap option a go this weekend, just have to head for Shell garages and not cafes then.
I guess its all a learning curve.
