AVG antivirus (free edition)www.free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Spybot anti spyware (also free)www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
And for a good pop-up and history killer,...I think it cost about £20.

I use exactly the same.
Dropped Norton/symantec for AVG runs far better and quicker.
Used loads of firewalls and Symantec comes tops.
Failing that try a hardware firewall - Nokia IP380

AVG (free), and Microsoft spyware (free) - seems to keep things clean for me.

I use Linux. :D

No need for any of the crap that you HAVE to install on a Windows pc.

I'm no evangelist - each to their own but, I'm a recent Linux convert and I think it's great.

I used to run Norton too, but the free update expired so I uninstalled it and installed the free AVG one instead. First thing it does is scans for viruses on your PC, and it found two!

I've always used ZoneAlarm (free) to keep an eye on things, and run SpyBot, AdAware and the new MS Anti-Spyware for belt and braces. There's also a firewall on the modem/router which helps too.

My bro-in-law had real problems with his laptop over xmas, managed to get "SpyAxe" onto it somehow which is supposed to be a free anti-malware but triggers false alerts. Got to the point where it was popping up boxes every 5 seconds and really slowing down his PC. It's a real pain to uninstall as it has no uninstaller, but managed to get rid of it in the end, along with 37 viruses (virii?) and another 8 pieces of malware. He was suitably chastised and now runs SpyBot with AVG in there too, again replacing NAV.
