ya know, i think it may well be something like this that im not doing right. It still won’t start. Ive tried the choke thing, but i need to charge the battery now as its getting a touch low (will do tonight) Firstly, sorry for all my questions. I hate being a newbie, and i feel like a total dumbarse asking so much, but i feel its better to ask than not, and im gonna use the "its my first bike" thing for as long as i possibly can haha When i turn the ignition on, when its on the stand - the hazard light (stand down) and the oil light illuminate. sit on bike - stand up, hazard light off - is this also a safety cutout for it starting? Are there any other safety cutouts for starting that i need to be aware of? The oil light goes on and off occasionally during trying to start - i cant see this being any reason for it to not start tho. Should i get the plugs out and check them over? Anything else i should check ? I would presume there is troubleshooting process - i have one nailed for my scooter to check, but im kinda lost on a 4t bike. Am i right in thinking there is no neutral light? Also, is there any online users handbook/overview/pdf's of the bike online? I know with the Lambretta etc there is a ridiculous amount of literature online, but i cant seem to locate anything easily about the ss. Again, sorry to ask so many stupid questions. i *really* hate being a newb. Cy [Edited on 27-1-2006 by Fiver] |
Hello Fiver, You can download some owners and workshop manuals here,www.duc.nu/manuals. Yep,I know you have a 600 but the 750SS is a very similar bike and the manuals should tell you all you need. Haynes also do a manual that covers all SS models.(no.3290)You can get them at any decent bike shop or the larger Halfords stores. AFAIK,the sidestand warning light on a 600SS is just that,...i.e a light warning you the stand is down.I dont think Ducati fitted cut-out switches to that model. There should be a green neutral light on the dash.(Top left on the idiot light panel,if my memory is correct) If yours is not working it could be just a blown bulb or a faulty switch.(The switch is in the back of the gearbox, between the engine and swingarm) Hope this helps. |
The pro fst or carb heaters won't help with the cold starting issue, carb icing occurs when the bike has been running for a short while. Most likely you just need to get the choke right before pressing the starter. Key on, choke full on, don't touch the throttle at all, press the starter, you should at least have it firing as it turns over! A good battery charge is essential, and a new set of plugs can make a big difference as well, they're not expensive! |
