Similar idea but you could go for an intro lesson in a light airplane or Helecopter. I've been lucky enough to do both and they are great days. Only problem is it would not involve his friends or the other parents.

For a group activity you could look at the outdoor type day. You've already mentioned the quads, you can link it in Honda Pilot racing, paintball and similar to make a full day out.
