I bought my second set of fairings from him off ebay, and he wouldn't combine the postage costs!

So you end up paying about £15 per item that you buy - and when you buy two side panels, a front piece, a seat unit and some seat foam it all adds up ... to about £90 in postage!

When I bought the first set I bought directly off the website and he only charged me €18 for delivery - about £13 - and the panels were about the same price.

Ricambi-Weiss seems to be the only guy that is mass-producing this stuff, and can knock it out at a decent cost. The quality when it arrives is not a perfect finish, but any paint shop worth the money will always spend a while prepping the parts to remove any casting marks and imperfections anyway - its why a decent paint job will cost quite a bit of money.

Other places I tried say they have the best kit, but you have to wait for 6 weeks while they make it and pay about three times the price. From the quality of the parts I've seen on some of the DD bikes, there really isn't much difference between the two once painted.

Just to point out that this is a "proper" 916 seat unit.

Ricambi also do a 916-look ("916 Optik" as he says!) seat unit which mounts to all the original points on the SS, but is styled at the rear to look like the 916 ...

FWIW, I think the genuine 916 unit modded to fit looks a damn sight better!

Note that the rear frame spar was removed to accomodate the underseat pipes (with some more bracing added under the seat unit). You would not need to do this if you were fitting the "standard" high-level SS pipes.

Now that looks very nice

i finally broke down and bought myself the 916 unit from ricambi weiss.

The build quality of it seems pretty good, and its not as thin as id imagined, but will still take a fair amount of work to get right.

I spoke to a man today who is going prep and paint it for me, and will also build me a nice ally subframe for it to sit on.

The 916 seat i bought from fleabay turned out kinda interesting.
It looked a total piece of poop when i bought it and the price reflected that - with its bad home made cover, but i figured it wouldnt matter as id have to butcher the base to suit the correct tank profile, and then i would recover it.

i took the nasty covering off last night to find that underneath it had its original covering in immaculate condition!
So now im torn to either look for another ratty one or trash this good one for the better of my new seat unit.

hrm.

Heres a pic of my DD bike when originally doing a bit of road work
The seat unit is from ricambi weiss, it is now in its second race season and is survivng very well, I have recently got another to fit to the Class A bike I'm building and my mate Adrian has done me a subframe (I think he said he made several) based on the one I already have that I made myself
