I have an '01 748R bought from new from an official UK dealer.

It did NOT come with Termi's or paddock stand. I did get a cover though!!!!.

2001 R

I had a 2001 R from new, from Forza Italia, thye did not include Termi's that Year, 2002 on wards, for a street bike it was a complete bag of nails, despite Hackets at the time chipping her and Gutting the exhaust,

Best Ducati Road bike I have had, and had a few! Multistrada S DS, Best Road sports bike I have R1!

Maybe it was a dealer thing then......maybe a few less generous dealers than others.......

I picked up my bike secondhand last year, came with all documents, handbooks etc including original bill of sale. Sale included 50mm Termigs / DP EROM Chip / Metallic grey DP paddock stand and cover (didn't get the cover) at no extra cost. I think they threw in the first service too......

Bag of nails ? A Ducati 748R a bag of nails ?

OK I admit that it is a very single minded and focused piece of machinery that doesn't tolerate fools lightly - but "a bag of nails"......nah.....

You want a bag of nails go get yourself a Yamaha XS650......

Agricultural Machinery

Agricultural Machinery is how I would describe the Ducati Superbike engine to that of an R1, and the thing actually handles! O.k. is has that V Twin sole thing missing but that is far out weighed by the sheer pleasure of ownership, running costs (£27 for the first service, £100 the second)and resale values, seen the used price of those ugly 999/749 lately! Soon they will be giving them away with corn flakes!, now the factory has decided to dump the ugly Duc, Ducati have been getting away with it for years, but too many people have found them out, I am one of them, I keep one foot in the Ducati camp for now with the Multistrada, probably the best real road bike/Sports Touring they have ever made, but I guess you will disagree with me.

I have had 4 Ducatis, with an R1 and a GSXR750 in between. Granted, the Jap stuff is easier on the wallet and easy to live with....but they both completely lacked any sort of soul. When I take my 'R' out, it is an occasion..something a bit special. When I went out on my R1 it was just another Jap bike. It could've been anything.
All individual taste tho I suppose

748R, It`s a keeper,I Love it.

Looks great, feels great and is fast enough for me.

twpd 07-Aug-2006 22:57

748R=road legal race bike that demands skilled input. It only existed to homologate the race bikes.

R1=easy-going road bike for lazy muppets.

I know which one I would rather have. ;)

I think the 24k miles of riding smiles I've had far outweigh the poxy zorsts and paddock stand which I had already.

I didn't buy zorsts, I bought a bike...!!! a real bike!!!

Guess I'll still feel that way when its rebuilt...That's the Ducati thing..!!!

I certainly wasn't robbed though!!!
