People find that their interests move on, or that there is no longer anything new or fresh for them on the forum - either they've seen it all before or they have said everything they have to say, time to move on.
It's not something peculiar to the DSC Message Board, it happens on all forums - the ones that I've seen, anyway.
And all forums have their nuisance posters - to a greater or lesser extent. It's endemic to the Internet.

That pretty much sums it up, don't like to mention the usual old chestnut but I'm going to do anyway, there's a significant proportion of the membership IMHO that:-

1) Just use the site for info. and don't bother posting
2) Never come near the site at all and don't bother with the internerd in general.

Some interesting points and good to see some reasoned discussion.

Loz, in my mind hits the nail on the head - peoples tastes (and bikes) change and while I'm sure lots just come here looking for Ducati info, others might now just browse and not post at all. But, if no-one posted here, the information would not be available and the message board could just be a calendar of events instead!

I think A888SP's post is a constructive one but, since I'm now a member of the webteam my own usage of the site has changed totally. Instead of being able to browse over all sorts of forums, I now seem to only do webteamy type stuff and browse the 'SS' forum when I get chance - so I'd be interested to hear why people think their usage of the site has changed?

I'm sure a lot of people did get very sick of the old server/software situation and constant outages but hopefully those users will return and post more regularly now that the problems have been solved.

Also to answer A88SP's question about offensive posts - it just happended to be bad timing that the posts appeared during a heavy workload for the Weteam and no-one actually reported them for sometime, as mentioned previously we now rely quite a bit on people reporting offensive posts other wise we might not see them ourselves.

FINALLY - the new constitution has been hand posted with the copy of Pronto and is very worthy of consideration.

Kind Regards - Frank

Yep agreed - and a much better user interface. The only thing it needs is the technical depth of DSC. Now if a few of the old DSC guard were to start checking it out ... who knows ...

Good site the Ducatisti one, I'm going to take the credit for posting up the link to Ducatisti on the DSC board and making people aware of it.

Mind you I have to say I find the user interface less user friendly if anything.

The people are a good friendly bunch though and I post a bit on there as well (I'm T8 over there). The only other thing about the site is that it's a bit 'quiet' with not quite as many postings to get yer teeth into - don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing

Got mine today and I to be frank I can't be arsed with the constitution - I joined last year and I guess I missed it all. I don't know what all the fuss is about ... just that there has been loads of bitchin' about it and the DD by a bunch of people I've never met but all seem to know each other really well and it is all a bit boring really. Yawn.

Can't be arsed with Pronto either actually - I binned it.

I particularly like the . . .

webmaster's censorship policy - seems that posts that are deemed only acceptable to them are allowed to stay on the board.

Well someone has to make the decision as to what is acceptable and what is not, otherwise the place would become a free for all and offensive comment could become the norm.

I think that on balance they do an excellent job.

( I'll leave now shall I? )

Fordie 02-Sep-2006 09:46

I totally agree Philthy, unfortuantly it seem the norm nowadays to go against any sort of moral or expected behavoir and everyone cribbing about big brother. Big brother would'nt have to be there if people behaved in a respecting, toterating manner. Treat people as you would wish to be treated and if you hav'nt got some thing nice to say, Do'nt say it The world full of **** but it does'nt have to be seen on our site. 4D
