Give the old ones to the Red Cross or St John Ambulance for them to practice on.

I find the linings wear out in four or five years, Up 'til now they end up in the b1n,

Good idea to give them to St Johns etc to practice with. I'll try and remember next time.

Ray.

Don't know if I could do that, very sensible idea, but too many good memories that come back when I look at them, I'll have to have a display case and pretend they are racing trophies!

Discounted helmets are usually older models/designs so they may already be "old" even if "new" to you. Something to bear in mind if you are wondering about whether yours is past it.

Most of the 'decay' of a helmet though is once it starts being worn, the sweat and grime and elements that build up, if a helmet has been stored cool and dry place, it's generally ok, it's the wear that makes it 'run' out, so if you're not a regular biker you can usually guage when you should change it. If you ride every day then most people change their helmets 3-4 years.

A lot of helmets do replaceable inners, cheeks and headlining now, so you don't need to replace whole helmet, and if yours is removable for godsake get them out and wash it, stops the bacteria building up and keeping it fresh and washed is far better for the helmet and your head and the fit!
