hmmm, not exactly my fav breed due to a minor face ripping incident as a child :( Good dogs just a little too exciteable at times if not well trained. Bit like most dogs I guess. |

Springer or Doberman Claire ? Most bad dog behaviour is bad training some down to bad breeding. |
Have trained Dobies, Shepherd and also a Rottie to advanced level obedience, and have to say - I'd rather one of them than a spaniel believe it or not - those in the doggy world would understand. (apart from a water spaniel, which was a poppet and so quick to learn) Used to do re-training for 'rescue' large breeds back in the early 90's. Best combi I had was a Manchester terrier with a young shepherd - they worked fantastically as a team:) |

If you have a Spaniel it will always be best if worked, full of beans and a right handful but when sorted nothing to beat them as an all round gun dog. We've trained all sorts, mostly for security work so they have to be right before they go to the customer. Not so interested in the security dog side now, am going to concentrate on the springers now I'm semi retired. Those "in the doggy world" will have no doubt heard the saying "A labrador is born half trained, a springer dies half trained" ;) |

Talking about the spaniel Paul and you sumed it up above... full of bean and a bit of a handful... unless they are trained which most pets are not properly they can be a little too exciteable and having been on the receiving end of this I am slightly wary. Don't get me wrong, I am a dog lover in every way :) this is my little lad... |
