haha - thanks mort.
Maybe we should take some pictures and post them on the board as a warning! Hope you liked the rest of the bike anyway!

Frank - appreciate the offer. May take you up on the barrels and pistons, depending on what Nelly turns up. We did look at the possibility of putting an ie engine but, but might be a mod too far!

I'll be back with running updates.

best, Chi

Hi Chi,

Just had a quick look through MCN....Blacks in Ormskirk are selling 3 inj motors - 750/900 & a 900 Monster.....

Read what you wrote earlier and wonder if an inj engine could be fitted with Carbs????

What was Nellies opinion?

I've had a brief look at dropping an injected motor in, as Chi mentioned, in both car'd and injected guises.
The full on injected root raises alsorts of problems, not completely unsurmountable, but complicated. The "old style" tank has no provision for an injection pump, so this would need to be found a home. The ECU, ignition, FI system and loom need to be fitted and the airbox needs to take the throttles and bellmouths. The list goes on.
All are probably acheivable but time and £'s would soon mount up I guess.
Other than being told fitting carbs to the injection motor "is more trouble than it'd be worth", the main stumbling block I can see is the ignition.
The carb'd engine uses two pick ups and triggers off the flywheel. The injected motor uses the inductive pick up, ala all the FI motors and the ECU fires the coils.
This could be got around by using the flywheel off the early engine, but I don't believe it's that simple??? I'm sure the crank is different.
The motor Chi is chasing is a good buy for the money and I reckon the money saved will be more than enough for a few tweaks he has in mind to make it a nice little motor
;)

Chi, do you really want some pictures posting up?????? :o

the ie route sounded like a really cool idea for about 2 days before Nelly came back to me with the bad news. Anyone who does this will be guaranteed to have the only one in the world!

Nelly - I'm quite happy to have pics posted but perhaps we should check with board members if they want to see such wince-inducing pics first!

yay! I got me an engine :D

Big thanks for all the leads guys.

Just have to work out with Nelly what to do with it now :sing::sing::sing:

mmmmmm.....hi-comp pistons......
Like you said - since the engine is out at the moment, it makes sense to do some work on it now and avoid dropping it out again later.

I've already got a new job lined up and I've squirrelled away enough for a decent budget.

Even so, I'm probably not going to be able to afford to do everything that I would like this go around. Any views on what mods will give me most bang for bucks?

A very happy chicken
