Motul 300V, recommended by the likes of John Hackett, but mainly because it smells so good when you come in from a hot track session! |
Castrol GPS |
Motul 300v, but i'm trying to get some amsoil. Would have thought you might use Amsoil if you are in america. These are both Ester based oils. |
So Amsoil would be a good choice then? It's what i was leaning towards using. I know it suggests 15w40 but i here alot from all over about going 15w50, why is that? By the way, thanks for all the replies too guys. |
Rock-oil 15/50 Synthesis racing oil - as recomended by Mr Spalding |
Oh dear the great oil debate again!! What oil you got? Everyone has there own favourites. I have even seen weasel Pee recommended on the Ducati index!! Only use whatever the latest Ducati recommendation is myself, usually. This equates to whoever is sponsoring the Ducati Corse. I can see the sense in going for a fully synthetic **/50. Have a look at www.shell.com loads of info. You can even win a 999!! (got to shift em somehow!!) I would be wary of using a car oil in a bike, even tho' Mr Shazaam! does, purely for the reason that some additives that help the oil cope with the combined engine/transmission you get on bikes but not on cars MAY be missing. (Yes I know Old minis etc used to have 'em but are you really gonna use castrol GTX in yer bike??) Whatever you go for I would change it every 12 months/3k miles whichever is the sooner, cheap insurance/ Ray |
Must admit that if my Local Honda shop sold Mobil 1 and would do it for the same price as they do me the Silkolene I would use it as I did use it in my IL4 race bikes, but as I get the Silkolene at around 60% of the cost of Mobil 1 and when your racing with regular oil changes that adds up and with 5 years of running Comp4 on both road and track I see no reason to change |
Vlud Amsoil has the highest film strength of ANY retail available oil. I want it to help give my rockers a chance of survival. Its very hard to find in the uk and F... expensive. They do a 20w/50 "2000" racing oil |

Well done Uncledunnie, me too and for the same reason. Mr Spalding was the last person to play with the engine. Although Nelly is changing the oil while he has it tomorrow and I think he uses Shell - still a 15/50 fully synth though .. I asked about shear strength etc - Nelly's happy with it. TP |
Cool, thanks a ton for all the info guys, very helpful |
