Was out on that 748 today for a blast on those lovely dry roads. Popped into Foxes as well and there were 100s of bikes out there! Grant at GP Performance hasn't got the kit yet to do the belts on the 999 so still off the road for the time being. Keeping the miles down though! When do the Monday night bike meets start at Foxes? |

Two weeks romorrow on Senna3's birthday, March 30th Sorry about the thread Hi-jack 9rrr as we have strayed off Mag Swingarms so back to mag swing arms I have 3 of them one in the 998R, one in the 998Hybrid and one for the 955 Corse, my 996 has a longer swingarm made from two standatd arms welded together. Spodon did a batch of these when the 955 was first used for racing commisioned by Ray Stringer who at the time wa Steve Hislop's Team mate in the Devimead Ducati race team, but didn't quite get as good equipment as Hizzy did |
Hello sorry but what are the benefits of a mag swinging arm? TopiToo |

I have been looking for a Mag arm in good condition for about a year now to finish off my project of making my 955SP a road going version of the Corsa. I was looking very seriously at the one on ebay and may bid on it but, I have made some calls and the fact it isnt machined worrys me slightly. Reason I say this is that I have bought mag valve covers for the engine, an engine side cover, a clutch cover from TARGET998 and while the parts have all arrived in mint order, when PRO TWINS went to fit them on the bike they told me that all the parts looked right but where all slighty out (these also required the some machining). They told me they thought some of the parts where made new from casts of the originals? Anyway, after getting the bike back I fired it up and left it burbling while I closed my garage and luckily noticed a huge pile of oil under the bike. Basically the valve covers werent quite flat and Rob had to remove them and hammer them flat then fit them back. Does anyone have any experience of unmachined arms like this? Skidlidz? |
Can't say I have I looked at that one on Ebay and thought about the jigging it would take to get it aligned to bore it correctly, I feel that would be something best left to the specialists like Spondon or Harris |
Hello Folks, On the LTSSSSA (longer-than-standard-single-sided-swing-arm) topic, does anyone know: - Is the cut-and-shut lengthened standard arm a viable option? - Does this option offer all/most/some/few of the benefits of the mag arm? - Is there a firm that offers this service (Harris?) - What kind of cost should you expect for the work? - Would the standard rear shock have sufficient adjustment to cater for the ratio change (998 - Ohlins)? Thanks, Spin |
My cut and shut arm is the same length as the Mag arm as such it does move the weight bias forward but not by quite as much as it is not as light as the mag arm It does have some advantages though as you can use it with the standard rocker and a slightly reworked shock as the lower shock mount is in the original position, mine is coupled to a Panske shock that was built for a standard 916 arm and has been tweeked to suit the longer arm without having to resort to any new parts or a rebuild. My arm is one of a batch done by Spondon Engineering who have made a very nice job of it, they cut one arm in two and then cut a section out of another arm, remove the back off it and weld them together including internally, then the bcak is welded back on. All very neat and with the carbon protector on nobody notices its been done |
Thanks Skidlids, I best give Spondon a bell then. Spin |
