WHat a great thread with some excellent pics and great touch-up work as well.

Personally I think a 900ss looks old-fashioned with the white wheel and frame and as for cleaning !!!

The colour wheels you have at the moment I think, look great but, I do love my gold front Marchesini - I just wish I could afford a rear one

Gold Dymags maybe?

Frank

Nattyboy 20-Sep-2004 14:07

Frank...What you need to do is sell me your front to match this back mag one ive got...weve got the reverse problems

Remind me...(I think your ss runs on the same spindle size as my 888)..was this a custom fit wheel or did you get a 9** one and change the bearings..if so how easy was it ??

Cheers
Nat

Iconic944ss 20-Sep-2004 14:15

Gimme, gimme :bouncy:

LOL....nice one Nat.

My front is full racing Megnesium wheel that I got well and truely mugged for on Ebay germany. (But I wanted it !!!)
It is a std spindle for my bike NOW after I converted the sodding thing -

I'd vote you get the wheels painted white, why well look at your second post "Attachment: Dream.jpg" ;)
Why compramise a dream just becase other people may not agree :saint:

Darren

Ps white wheels aren't to bad to keep clean if you wax them every other clean ;)

weeveetwin 20-Sep-2004 16:48

Wot about red wheels? My last 900ss had them. It looked very, er, different..
(Just moved home Nat, and took a week off to unpack/paint/decorate etc. Luvverly pastime - even beats doing timber decking!)

paynep 20-Sep-2004 17:27

How about one of each?

Do alpinestars make stilletoes to match your white wheels?
Honestly, what can you be thinking??
I've just blacked up my SP5 wheels as the silvery gold colour looked a bit poofy.
Had black wheels also on my '92 851.
You may be wondering if white will look OK - bottom line is it may look OK, but black will look awesome.

Iconic944ss 21-Sep-2004 18:00

I'll say no more................

sparkin 12-Feb-2005 00:55

Well I`ve done it,white wheels that is,the bikes still not finished yet but the majority is done.Still got the rad, clutch hose, suspension set up and some more new fastners to do and the rest of the carbon body work, but the family has taken president over the last three months so it`s took longer than I`d like, but it`ll be worth it in the end:D

madmav 12-Feb-2005 01:00

white wheels i love em !!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Harv748 12-Feb-2005 01:05

Good choice sparky...white looks superb on the 851/888.

The more I look at the 851/888's the more I want one...

sparkin 12-Feb-2005 01:16

:D Glad people like it,it realy shows the carbon huggers up now, note rear spring, that`s a hyperpro one, normally purple but I couldn`t have that so I powder coated it yellow with the suspension hoop :D
Has anyone got any Regina stickers for the swingarm laying around?

No reflection on Carl, but with one thing and another I haven`t been able to get over and settle up with him.

sparkin 28-Feb-2005 22:58

Running out of funds i`m afraid mate, the bike is now home, but needs a new battery as the old one isn`t holding it`s charge.Going to try and get the nose cone and screen on at the weekend, the carbon side fairings have been put on the back burner for a while,I have the decals, but not the money for paint:( The bike sounds fantastic since I got it back, lots crisper, compression restored etc can`t wait to get it on the road:D

sparkin 19-Mar-2005 18:42

Thought I`d put a picture up now it`s finally finshed(bar carbon side panels)just so people who expressed a preference on colour can have their say, don`t be shy,I wont be offended:devil::mad::lol::D;):smug:

Nattyboy 19-Mar-2005 19:21

Fanbloodytastic mate...fair play to you for having the balls to go with white Graham..could of looked average but it just looks cock on..

Cheers

Nat

Douglas851 20-Mar-2005 00:47

Sparkin, the bike looks good. Have always liked white wheels since my original 1990 851. My 888 is still in bits in the garage, might be able to get working on it now the weather is a bit warmer. Where did you get the exhaust hangers? I have just got a pair of Sil Motor cans off a Superlight and need the swept back hangers to match.

Douglas

Nattyboy 20-Mar-2005 01:02

Douglas...contact stuart @ spareshack.com..hell be able to help. He got my hangers for my sils (although there not as flash as grahams !!)

Cheers
Nat

weeveetwin 20-Mar-2005 10:04

That's turned out real nice. One of the prettiest 888s I've seen.

(I agree with Douglas about the early 851s. My first 900ss had the white frame and wheels too, and it really turned heads).

Steve

sparkin 20-Mar-2005 11:02

The hangers are one-offs made by Carl Harrison M/Cs to carry the 50mm SP system.I`m still contemplating how I`m going to do the carbon side panels,I have a set of original decals, but I`m not sure if I should leave some carbon showing thru or not, like the number one on the seat unit is,probably the bottom air vents(996R style),or should I just do it as standard or even race replica like the picture earlier in the thread:puzzled: ,what do you think chaps?

Jasper 20-Mar-2005 12:19

I would,as you have already stated, put the standard decals on,but leave the bottom air vents in carbon.

888heaven 21-Mar-2005 23:56

white

Sparkin
looks dropdead gorge I would go the full hog and have a white frame sets the red off.
dig the high pipes.

851neil 22-Mar-2005 21:29

nice m8, any chance of a front end shot ??

sparkin 22-Mar-2005 21:41

Your wish is my command Newbie:D

888heaven 22-Mar-2005 22:49

Sparkin
Is that an underslung rear caliper off a SL900 or off something else.
ian

sparkin 22-Mar-2005 22:55

Basically it`s the one Ducati offer,Part No 968158AAA,not sure if it`s still avaliable, certainly makes a difference thou,if you ever do use it;)

888heaven 22-Mar-2005 23:07

underslung

Sparkin
hows it better than the standard cali or even the one on my SL900.
Is it the pads suplied or is it a bigger pad contact area.:puzzled:
ian

851neil 22-Mar-2005 23:16

also being an Aprilia RSV owner I now have to get used to people talking about a back brake that actually works ?? whoah this is too much....where's my beer gone....

It justs seem to settle the bike a bit better by "pulling" down on the engine, just like your superlight should do.

sparkin 26-Mar-2005 14:48

Now I`ve got the hang of this internet picture thingy I can put two side by side

I`m well pleased with that:D

Jasper 26-Mar-2005 16:00

And so you should be.That's superb mate.
