A theory as to why women make good drag racers A drag racecar/bike is a very simple mechanical device similar to a dish washer, pull a few levers, push a few buttons hey presto Job done!!! Futhermore women have super quick reaction times, how long does it take for them to discover that you have spent this weeks house keeping on Ducati bits?? How long to realise that you are are lying when you tell them you're going to be back from a DSC rideout in time to cut the lawn etc 0.000001 seconds!! Sorry I hope you weren't expecting a serious answer at this time of day Ray:P |
No worries Steve, I like winding you up! I agree with Freak on the feisty race team thing, seemed to me that they wanted to get other women to join them, mainly to raise their own profile. I also agree wholeheartedly with Ray on the weight of numbers thing. People always say, oh we need more women to race bla bla, but most of those that want to probably already do, and by the laws of statistics very very few of them will make it far enough to be 'noticed'. On the drag racing front, the higher ratio of women drivers may be partly down to the fact that women generally have a higher tolerance to 'G forces' ? Just a theory! |
It would be interesting to see the numbers of both male and female race licence holders as a percentage of the numbers of road licence holders - I see so few female bikers on the road that it's hardly surprising there are not many women racing - there's hardly any men racing compared to how many ride either. |

But you're looking at it from the point of view that if you're into bikes, you must like bike racing. Whereas probably 50% or more motorcyclists probably ride for pleasure, or as a cheap means of getting from A-B, not to do it at lightening speed. What's the ratio of sports bikes to every other bike on the road? My Mum drives a car, doesn't mean she wants to be an F1 driver, or have any interest in the sport. |

No, that's not what I meant. I was thinking about overall figures for bikers, male and female. There are plenty of male bikers who have no interest in racing, let alone desire to race themselves, just as there will be for women. All I'm saying is, for every hundred men who have a bike license, regardless of the type of bike, how many also race, and what is a comparable figure for women. That would be a fairer comparison of how many women race. Who knows, it might even turn out that more women race than men, based on total numbers, or then again it might not! |

it was good to get the info on how to go about getting your licence etc, etc... But it's obvious that it is all about raising the profile of those within the team that are quicker...Your ordinary Josephine bloggs would continue to pay her own way within the team whilst others get all the sponsorship and publicity... Mind you...Isn't that the way in motor sports?:puzzled: |

Skidlids I know there are women out there that are fast, are good and have done it alone. I guess I was more interested in seeing what people thought about more women getting into racing and indeed biking in general. I am sure others get the same sort of comments i get about how dangerous it is and whats a nice girl like you doing riding a big scary motorbike  I think the classic line is always 'well you don't look like the sort of girl that would ride a motorbike' :puzzled: what should i look like then??? |
Lily, I reckon you should just go for it! Ultimately the decision is yours and there are plenty of options to get into racing, including the Desmo Due series. Or, just enter one race on Louigi's bike or something if you only want a taster. You've seen my riding and I'm not quick, but I'm going to have a go. I've always wanted to do it so I'm going to have a go. Yes it's dangerous, but so are a lot of things. Look at what I did to my shoulder playing rugby! It's still stuffed! Ange would prefer me to race than play rugby! |

Jeez, they can't even get the sayings right... It's TUPPENCE worth! (or were you accounting for inflation?) No such thing as discrimination I say. If wimmin wants to race, then let 'em race. Level playing field an all that mullarky. But if someone suggests a wimmin only race, then don't you girlies go gettin all moody and pmt'd up if someone suggests a men only race. |
YEAH!!!!!! |
