Make no mistake she's a beauty :P |
Stop talking about you're mum. Oh, shazz says hi! |
Hello shazz :D Think we need to get back to the orignal topic....... Andy just get your money out you bloody tight arse :P:P:P |
Sorry, quite right Dave, enough of this gibberish. Sorry, I'm not sorry, erm damn...... errr Sorry........ I think! Pays ya money Andy! |
if i remember right my 998r got new belts every 12months or 6k whichever came first, i would just do it for piece of mind. If you ride it:burn: then its worth it for warranty piece of mind. If your not bothered about that then fook em!:eureka: |
Todays task....find out if its belts or not!!! |
Andy, for the cost of the belts-get them changed. Ducati service intervals are like most motor driven vehicles 6000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first-so doing 2,000 miles a year does not mean you don't need a service for 3 years 'cause you don't do the mileage............. Take it somewhere you trust-JHP are not that far from you. John |
999R 6000m/12 month service quoted maximum cost as per Ducati transparent service manual used by all dealers is £395.80 plus VAT This should be maximum cost and probably might be less as the list includes 4x opening shims@10.90 and 4x closing shims@31.50 which may not be needed depending on mileage and type of use No belts on this service but it has air filters on there down to be changed @£27.99 each!! Labour in the manual is 6hrs based at £40 ph so some dealers will be higher some lower for this figure Ask your dealer to see their transparent service manual to see the schedules and cost breakdowns as they all have one. Would have thought if you are planning to track day it you will be looking at more frequent servicing anyway as per race schedules i.e. checking valve shimming etc as it will get just as much if not more stick than if you were racing? If you were racing you probably would have 2x 20 min races in a day but riding virtually all day on a track day -and dont say you wont be pushing it as much on a track day:devil: So more costs involved there:o |
Ah, had a heart to heart, and your right its the 395 jobbie. Incidentaly you 749r boys..... wake up smell the coffee and look how much your services are going to be... .gulp. And get this 2003 749s 12 months or 10000 miles =£395 2004 749s.........................................= £600!! Oh checked with jhp no belts on this service. Unless I want to change them! |

No!!!!!!! HOW much??? That can't be right, surely??? |

phew that aint as bad as i thought it was gonne be. cheers andy. /Ian |

I have been quoted nearly £700, What does the Transparent Service thingy say ? |
749r is, as you say, even more expensive! |
749R 6000m/12 month service £689.20 plus vat The reason the 749s and 749r 2004 are so high is because if closing shims need to be changed then the cylinder heads have to be removed as they use race type taper collets on these two models only. The good news is that Ducati are expecting nearly double the mileage before any of the closing shims require changing so its highly unlikely that anyone should end up with a bill anywhere near the maximum cost shown, problem is dealers quote the figures from the book without explaining things |
All R models should have belts every 12 months/6K miles whichever is the sooner according to Ducati schedules. A good dealer will let you see the schedule. The service is heading for 10 hours labour. Don't try comparing boggo cars with a 999r. Does your boggo mobile out 150 BHP per litre, get revd to 11k? and to get at the oily bits you don't have to take the bodywork or petrol/diesel tank off. Most Franchised car dealers charge similar if not higher rates than Franchised Ducati dealers. Its just that yer average boggo mobile only takes a couple of hours or so to service and has much longer intervals for the reasons stated above. If you must compare Ducati R model servicing with cars try something like an Evo Mitsi. Service every 4.5k miles, to really set your wallet back how about a set of brake pads all round £600 plus. On average very similar if not higher servicing costs. You can try non gen parts in some areas e.g aftermarket brake pads or specialists but from what I have seen the good specialists don't charge a great deal less than A Franchised dealer. Choose someone you are happy with and if they give consistent good service stick with 'em You can't run a Mitsi/Fazza/ on Peugeot 106 Money, so you can't expect to run an R on C90 money. I used to use a Franchised dealer for servicing a '96 CBR 600 and the servicing costs were not that much less than a Ducati as the schedule was for service every 4k miles. If you want to get your moneysworth out of the servicing make sure you do the 6K every year..........................like it says, get out and ride! Ray [Edited on 6-1-2005 by Ray] |
I have to agree with Ray taking a 12000 mile year the difference in servicing cost between my MS ( 2x6000) & the ZRX1200R I had before (3x4000) is minimal. To get value for your money get out and use the bike as it was intended i.e. ride the thing |
No belts at 12 months...... Ive got the form in my hand......... |
Andyb, The form I have seen specifically mentions R Models. Are you sure there isn't another form for R models? 749/999 std models are belts @ 12k/2 years. Maybe things have changed since the the days of the 748/996/998r but seeing as I saw the form for my 998r and that has the same motor as a 2003 999r I doubt it. I was just as disbelieving originally and its was only when the job card got checked that someone with eagle eyes at the dealer noticed the difference between the job card and the Ducati schedule. Ray. |
To save any form of doubt buy a baby R ,have the kit fitted then its belts every 3000 miles . See its as easy as that -no more do i need belts or not.SORTED !!! Butch |
Try having an aircraft serviced. Every 50 hours and every year in additon, PLUS a real biggy every three years. Our last one was a "normal" one year service - £3800 plus VAT Ducati servicing? pice o' p**s :puzzled: |

Fine if you have the money then... :o |

I don't! :( |
Yeti.... get your self a hot air baloon mate  |
Andy Ask your dealer about a 'short' service. Valves checks according to my dealer are mileage dependant and not time dependant therefore do not need to be done until you reach 6,000 regardless of time. Last year this saved me about £150 on my 999s service as I recall and will do the same again this year (2nd year) as I have still only done £4,000. This is where most of the cost comes from particularly on the 'R' as someone has already pointed out. Belts are not worth taking a chance with and as someone else said get them changed if that's what the book says even if you have done low mileage as their deterioration is time based and can be worse if the bike is not used regularly. I hope this helps. |
Andy - that\'s cheap ... ... ask Red-Leader, last full service on his 998 including belts and a compression check cost £1,000. Then a belt delaminated 50 miles later ending him up in all sorts of bother ... including 120 mile round trip to take the bike back ;) Ahhh the joys etc.etc.etc. |
Quote:
Pooh!!!!!!.....I think I'm a bit late Ive done abaht 6 half since the last service. Looks like I better book a patch in the red light district then!;) |
So thats what they mean about the red light coming on when you need a service! :o |
STREWTH :o 749R wish i'd thought with my head and not my heart |
Good job that the 749/999's are so much easier and cheaper to service than those old-fashioned 748/996's, isn't it? |
Not so sure about that one ,the last 6000 service on my 748 cost over £7000 !!! Butch |
Well the bikes off tomorrow for the service, dyno and fettle! |
Dyno and Fettle? are they an authorised Ducati dealer :D |
Two new staff theyve taken on, well..............John is getting a bit old! :o:lol::lol: |
Well, been there and had that service. In time honoured fashion i spent on more than just a service.............shhh, is she listening? I have to say thanks to John, Ken, and the guys ( I now know they read this site!!) But i know i dont need to recommend them as we allready know how good they are! I dont feel ripped off, as is often the case with some places, I came away (riding the bike for the first time since Sept) with a feeling of satisfaction, and a quality job done. The bike pulls like a train with no hesistance and sounds as sweet as a sweet thing. I had a bit of work done on the suspension plus a free set up. Having previously wasted money on a "set up" elsewhere, I was dubious about what difference i would feel. Even with my limited knowledge and the amount of time since i rode the bike, It feels right. Once again I spent an amount of time looking and listening to John. If i was that good and clever, I dont think i would impart with the knowledge as freely as he does. So heres to my first track day this year. |
I know that feeling Andy,i wonder if anyone has ever taken there bike in and JUST had what they had originally intended to have done. I am always ok untill John starts a sentance with the word Corse. Corse while were at it,and Corse if were going that far andCorse it wouldnt cost that much more to......... You get the picture,i only took the 748 in for a new valve cap and hey presto 890 cc and as for the baby R.......! |
it is fun spending money though isnt it, especially on bike things. Bought my 996R back and said to myself "just keep it standard this time, just a hugger and open clutch cover thats all. But, here we go cant help myself, so many nice things out there. oh what fun it is to spend on your favourite motor toy. |
considering the price of the 2 year service i was quite worried about it as my 749s has only done 600 miles, so i went down to Ducati Glasgow and explained it had only done 600 miles and they told me what things would & would not need done, in the end they quoted me £300 for my service, Well worth giving ducati Glasgow a phone if your getting quoted alot and the bikes not done many miles. theyre good guys in there and know what theyre doing. /ian [Edited on 26-1-2005 by weeian] [Edited on 26-1-2005 by weeian] |
