Splendid at the moment.... have had some small problems but nothing to major.... taking me some time to get set up for me... Just don't need all this plug/coil/ecu long list problems people are having ! Good luck with yours mate :bouncy:

nathanhu 07-Apr-2005 23:34

i had the coils changed before i pick the bike up
the new type have a tail type plug rather than the plug directly on the coil

You're getting a 999R?

:puzzled::puzzled: How does that work then.... Just had a look at mine, there made in germany... BERU :puzzled:

nathanhu 07-Apr-2005 23:50

the 04 bike had the old coils fitted (they look like the the spark plug caps but with thinner wires) these coils had the connector plug attatched the the coil at the cylinder head.
the new 05 ish ( as some later bikes came with the new coils)
have a cable leading off from the coil about 10cm with a connecting plug on the end.
to tell the difference -
on the rear / standing cylinder the sparkplug cap/coil should just be visible from the left hand side.
if the plug attaching to this coil is stituated directly on the cylinder head this is the old type

Old type on mine then :( Only a matter of time then !!

nathanhu 07-Apr-2005 23:57

the problem is with these old coils and plug arrangement is that the contacts in the wiring plug (AMP type) start to corrode and build up a layer of oxydisation on the mating faces thus causing an earth fault to the front (mostly) cylinder.
the short term rectification is to disconect the coil and remove it .

inspect the inner contacts of the LT wiring plug looking for green tinge the the contact faces
do the same to the coil
spray a little WD40 into/onto the coil Lt plug
iff it happens all the time then twist the metal prongs inside the coil 1-2 deg to help induce a better / tighter fit to the LT plug

any "good " dealer should do this under warranty as they all know about this problem

Ducnow 08-Apr-2005 00:08

Hmmm....... maybe we should call your dealer and tell him to hold the bike there for a few weeks :D:D j/k ;)

Are you getting it new or do you have it alrayd and are waiting for it to come from service or repair?

btw... i just checked the 04 999R parts catalogue and the coils seem the same and have the same reference number :puzzled::puzzled:

nathanhu 11-Apr-2005 00:45

i bought my bike new and only cost me 600 pounds more than the 05 999s.

but i had to delay the paper work untill i got back from working away for a few months over xmas
:flame:

but it give me a few weeks to get to know the wife again before i loose myself in the garage, and spend all my money on track days again:lol:
