Fil I would'nt worry too much if I was you. Donny is one of those circuits that if you have done it before you are halfway there. Just stick to TP', Ali. Rattler or Nicks ar$e like glue

domski 09-Aug-2005 19:48

Jon, I hope you're not riding like Weeksy... fast down the straight and then using 5 apexes for every turn :P

There is only one apex for Schwantz curve - trust me ;)

You come out of the kink under Starkey's bridge, up the short straight (bendy straight) and then turn left for Schwantz... that's it!!

Nuffink rong wiv my map - Not until they redevelop it this winter, then most of it's being demolished :o

paynep 09-Aug-2005 22:22

Hooray for ebay! Motogp2 for PS2 arrived today, so I may be turning up on Friday with squinty eyes and an aching wrist........

Anyone know any good PS2 cracks to de-tune a 500cc 2-stroke to 55 bhp???

(Apart from allowing certain engine builders loose on it)

domski 09-Aug-2005 22:27

That's harsh.

Got ours up to 53bhp today :D

Watch out everyone, I could be dangerous with that much power.

Best bit was the extra torque and the fact the bike was running like a pile of poo last Tuesday (apparantly - I didn't notice).

Why can't it be race day NOW!!!!!!!

Yeah, right, only 1.24s from 50 bhp..............maybe it was my extra 5 bhp that was costing me 5 seconds??? Or could it be the extra 5 stone:puzzled:

domski 09-Aug-2005 22:40

Seriously.

I thought it was running well coz we got the cam timing done since Snett, but it needed a dyno run to re-do the fuelling (coz of the cam timing)

Then when I got back after Donny, Louigi pointed out that I had run the bike with the air filters on - which loses 2-3bhp.

So I was happy with that.

Then today, he rang me to say that the first dyno run (to re-do the fuelling) showed that it was a complete mess, and there was a flat spot big enough to fit TP into :o (which I did notice at Donny).

However, the throttle sensor wasn't working either - so that cost Rich £150 to sort, plus a trip back to his workshop to get the diagnostic stuff to set it up - BEFORE it could be dyno'd and set-up.

You following this?

So once the sensor was replaced, they re-did the mapping, got rid of the flat spot, found 1bhp and wait for it.... 25% more torque than I had at Snett.

Needless to say I am now gagging to get on it at the weekend :D

Your latest order from the Ann Summers catalogue arriving then Dom

Chris Wood 10-Aug-2005 11:40

After all that ......

I had two good sessions Donny last night! Lyn and Max were there too!

Burnt the clutch out after the second session damn must fix that.

Thoughts on my firts time at Donny.

Redgate - late turn in required.

Hollywood / Craner - must go faster

Old hairpin - always seemed closer than it was, will accelerate up the left rumbles, brake, turn at 2/3rds, nail small square of repaired tarmac.

Run to McLeans - GREAT - flat out, looking hard right, knee down through Mcleans

Coppice - lightbraking - down one, turn at the dot before the crest, look hard right at the bright orange tyre wall more than 90' head turn! and gas it!

Esses - all good, can you straight line..ish the first right bit? than over the rumbles on the left? Must try this in practice!

Feels like a REAL race circuit, fast, flowing, wide enough.

TRAFFIC WARNING - Roadworks on M1 at Leicester - I left Northampton - J15 at 3.00pm and got to Donny at 4.30! So add at least 1/2 hour to your normal travel time.

See you all Friday afternoon or Saturday!

TP 10-Aug-2005 11:46

Times Chris?

Don't be shy ;)

Chris Wood 10-Aug-2005 12:21

TP,

Didn't do times?

Felt OK though, geared 14/40 just right I think - 5speed / 675.

Such a short race, I fear the matter will be settled via qualifying and first two laps of mayhem?

The passing options are limited I think, If you outbrake and stuff someone will they get a better run on you for the next corner? I hope to get some clear space and just go................but I'll probably qualify 10-20 and get caught up in the novice carnage that will result, as the top 10 is now booked out by ex GP gods!

TP 10-Aug-2005 12:36

Bugger - how am I supposed to complete my analysis of the grid without your times ;)

You're right though, it sounds like qualifying is going to be even more important that usual because of no untimed practice and only 6 laps.

More so if it's wet!

phoenix n max 10-Aug-2005 13:03

Twas nice to do it in the dry - As for Coppice - I can only suggest no-one gets up close and personal behind me for this corner. My approach is atrocious !
However I did like the bit from Hollywood right up to Coppice and the chicane is far easier to deal with than the Esses.
I have a tacho now - 8800 revs - blimey didn't think I had that many :o
My gearing not quite right - not enough pull out of corners and if I changed down a gear it would have been too high rev's - Guess I should go faster then - Hmmmm !

HE'S NUMBER 10!!!

10!!!

NOT 12!!!

fil2 10-Aug-2005 14:20

qualifying may be the key..but with close to 60 bikes on track its going to be diffacult to put decent laps in.........that combined with the guest riders etc i think getting on the first 4 rows will be a great result...........

I think its going to be a very interesting qualifying session !

for sure, be interesting to see who really pushes it in the wet (if it is) or who plays the averages game and goes for a reasonable spot. we've seen people bin it in qualifying before!

fil2 10-Aug-2005 15:36

agreed....its a fine line between pushing hard for decent grid position and staying on ...!.............. its something i struggle with.!..how hard do i go..?

Go as hard and fast as you can mate, keep pushing until you slide :D

dickieducati 10-Aug-2005 15:43

you seem to have it pretty much spot on at the moment and i guess thats what racing is all about. thats why this series is good. i dont push it anywhere near enough but seeing people on very similar machinery/tyres disappear into the distance proves it can be done and i will hopefully close the gap over time.

I don't want to see anyone fall off mate ... just a bit of banter.

Jon 10-Aug-2005 20:12

Guys I think its ok you all saying gas it hard and all that, but I think it will be the intelligent rider who will get the best result. It will be the one that has the courage to nip up the inside and park it. pushing the other rider to run around the outside compromising his line for the next turn. Remember donny is one big corner with only one real line around it.
