I'm still with Easter .... looks good ... but I can be flexible ...... 2 groups is fine ... open pit lane is ideal but I wouldn't insist on it .... |

heard you the first time and thats tracktime only you tight fisted git:P |
Jon, I think bike transport will be circa £200, hotel £35 per night (no idea if that's per room or per person) flights are as cheap as chips, I'll have to check with the organiser about transport to and from the airport and circuit etc. Jerez is fantastic though :D Where's Andyb and Berton when you need them??? |
Ive been to spain................again. I wonder if this will be any cheaper than an organised one.........? |
Jerez 6th - 8th May sounds great. Only thing is, I think Track Sense run three groups , and would prefer open pitlane or two groups. Focused Events are doing 4 days at Jerez from 23 April. This September's Focused Events trip was superb (open pitlane throughout), I think they might be doing three groups this time to keep the price down...I'll send a quick email to check out a few more details. |
Ian, top work, keep us posted :) |
Not heard back from Focused Events yet, but it must be three groups, as the price advertised in MCN is £699 including Flights, Hotel and Bike Transport...not a bad price though....4 days at Jerez ? Nice! |
Looking at FE's website seems a pretty good deal to be fair, and only 12 places left, think for this one we need to make a decision fairly quickly... So, pending a bit of investigation who's up for this? yes or no? |
Jon, is there a prize draw for the free place? :) Wish I could go, have fun you lucky lot! |
I'd be happy to commit to this or one of the other Jerez or Almeria dates, but it might be a bit early for some. I'd tend to take the "places left" info with a small pinch of salt at this early stage. I'd guess they'd be working on something like 3 groups of 30 provisional limit, but in the face of a group of around 10 potential riders, I'm sure they'd "stretch" that slightly. Anyway, if they have sold 90 places already, they're doing pretty well! Of course, I could be completely wrong...Anyway, if an "advance guard" feels like booking up early, count me in. |
I can't commit to anything like this at the moment because I'm still unemployed. Hopefully that situation will change tomorrow though, I've got a third interview. I'm putting together a presentation for it now, I've never done so much work to get a job before! It's like a proper consultancy almost! |

Sorry, 3 groups arrangements doesn't interest me. In my opinion going all that way to do the same type of trackday as I could do in this country is a waste of time and money. No doubt someone will be along shortly to persuade me my opinion's wrong - but this time I shall be sticking to my guns. :P:P |

I'm guessing from the price that the Focused Events do is going to be 3 groups, but their previous trips have been two groups in the morning / open pit-lane in the afternoon, which seems a fair compromise. (The one in September reverted to 100% open pitlane because the track was so empty :D ). I've asked FE to confirm how many groups they're running, and will post info as soon as I get it. I have to agree, a foreign track day is a great laugh, but Open Pitlane makes it something really special. |
We did 3 groups in Jerez last month, from 10-6pm no break for lunch, so 20x8 sessions per day, that's probably 2 more than the UK anyway. 4 days, with probably 10% chance of rain, far better facilities than any UK track I've been too, so relaxed, and non of this getting up early to get to the circuit to set your stall up, one briefing on the first day that was your lot. We literally turned up 10 minutes before the start of the first session, bike was already from the day before, it was just a case of getting leathers on and go. I missed probably 8-10 sessions over 4 days, but had the most track time I've had all year.... go figure! |

I know Jon, Tim and myself went to Almeria back in 03 with Tracksence for the same money too. All in all though it still cost a grand and we, or rather Tim did all the leg work. |
from my position of going abroad for the first time i would say it can get a bit same...ish going to the same place for 4 days in a row. but once back im missing it loads. There is a different mentality on the track by all concerned compared to a uk day. It is a far more relaxed attitude, even the scots! jerez was fantastic, would i go there again so soon........? I would like to try somewhere else but the options are limited. Would i prefer to do 4 days in the uk instead, well it would certainly cost more, and weather wise, of the 10 days i have done in the uk this year, only 2 were great weather, to compete with the 4 in jerez, and it rained one of those! |
Andy, you get better pics in the UK though! |

you mean better quality pics...i looked awesome! |

You're right...that's exactly what I meant... you looked awesome mate! |

Andy its not always peaches & cream. I went back to Almeria 4 months after the first time I went there. Weather was even hotter the 2nd time and I had almost a good a time as the 1st. We tried Cartegena this year late Feb early March but because of the freak weather Spain was suffering at that time, it was very miserable:( |
Yeah i can understand that. Perhaps it was just the good company then........?:D |
So, has this come to a conclusion? Date, location, organiser, numbers...............? |
Andy, I am still waiting for confirmation of details from Focused Events, spoke to one of their guys at the weekend (they were running a TD at Oulton) and the hotel hadn't been sorted yet, could be one next to the circuit, or one in town, it will be 3 sessions as it was with 100% for that money. But the good news is it looks like it will be Motofrieght who will be shipping the bikes, so that alone makes me eager to book. But until they finalise information I'm sitting on the fence, this one though is the one that has taken my fancy so far though. |

Another Update Just had this from Racedays which maybe of interest "Hi Jon, Valencia is now confirmed and we are offering the following package for the Easter weekend; 4 days on track, 5 nights at the circuit hotel (with pool) and motorcycle transportation. £799. Flights and hire cars are to be arranged by the customers (Ryanair fly direct). Many of our customers wish to make a longer holiday of the trips and the petrol station at Valencia is approx 1.5 miles from the circuit so transport is essential. If you like however, I can investigate arranging transport specifically for your party. There will unfortunately be no academy at Valencia as some of our instructors have racing commitments, although Mike Edwards may be available if there is enough interest. The bikes will be transported by Broadleaze from Cirencester using custom crates for protection. There will be space for a spare set of wheels, small toolbox, paddock stands and set of leathers. The bikes are insured under CMR conditions against theft or damage through collision whilst in transport. We are trying to arrange a fully comprehensive insurance to offer customers cover against any other damage. However this is proving very difficult due to a F.S.A ruling that prohibits third parties arranging insurance. We would recommend anyone not having their own comprehensive insurance to arrange cover. Any items other than the motorcycles are uninsured and transported at the owners risk. I can offer you a £300 total discount for bookings of 10 or over. We expect the event to sell out but I am particularly interested in forming good relationships with clubs, please feel free to contact me with any suggestions or requests. I could for example arrange a tailored academy for the DSC - perhaps not as focused as the normal academy but utilising our cameras and datalogging equipment with top flight instruction? Thanks for your interest, Best regards, Gerry Bryce" |
i would really like to do Jerez/Cartegena around end of March! Bit of a 'fix' before we get any decent weather here! about 3 days of no hassle track riding sounds right!:) [Edited on 14-11-2005 by chillo] |
