Great work - but, blimey theres 4 too many valves under all that fairing

Impressive!!!

Rob B 11-Feb-2006 14:14

Frank,

You may be right.... I still want a Bimota DB2 too. Need a bit more lottery luck though.

Thanks, Rob

RightSaidFred 11-Feb-2006 17:18

Rob, hats off. Looking sweet mate!! :D

phil911 11-Feb-2006 22:27

Rob, may I request a pic of the rear caliper brake with the bracket ...
It looks very interesting to me !!!!
Thanks

Philippe

Rob,

Been following your post throughout with interest. Great job and you're right, the noise cant be beaten.

Alan...

RightSaidFred 19-Feb-2006 03:04

Rob

All finito yet??

Rob B 19-Feb-2006 09:44

Nah, still waiting for the final version of the rear axle. I've also got to take all the clocks apart to fit a carbon surround. One the axle is in i want to do a front to back bolt check and then I'll pop the airbox and body work on.

A few hours work I guess.

Oh yes. It'll also need a trip to Motorapido so Steve can work his dyno magic on the FIM chip. Gis original set up was spot on so I am hoping he'll be able to get this spec as sweet.

Hello Rob. I shall be looking fwd to seeing the finished item, judging by the look of the rear seat unit you went for the SP4 look??

P.S I still haven't wired my tacho in!!!!

Mike.

Rob B 19-Feb-2006 10:38

Mike,

get it over here as soon as the slats gone and we'll do it one Saturday afternoon.

Rgds, Rob

bitchinSP4 19-Feb-2006 11:24

Cheers Rob, I'll try and fit it in between work and the racing!
I assume you mean salt? had me scraching my head for a while.
Work has arrived best go.

Cheers Mike.

Rob B 26-Feb-2006 19:34

Nearly there now

just need the machined rear axle, a few fasteners, and a new LH grip.........

Rob B 26-Feb-2006 19:37

One more

I'd be interseted to hear what you think about the final colour scheme. The lack of decals may be a little bland/subtle, but as the bike its a bitsa, in the end, I decided that I didn't want it to end up as an SPS or SP4 wanabee.

Rgds, Rob

Rob B 26-Feb-2006 19:39

Oh yes. I've got to put Nat and Mike's Termi and Ohlins stickers on the correct bits too. Thanks guys.

Spot on Rob. I like the understated look with the big engine. How do you say wolf in sheep's clothing in Italian? Lupo in vestiti della pecora ;)

Iconic944ss 27-Feb-2006 11:46

Better still !!! - I love the understated graphics myself, less is more!

Rear end looks nice but caplier hose looks a bit.... out of place???

Frank

Jools 27-Feb-2006 12:39

I don't know how you manage with such a tiny garage and lack of tools and equipment :frog:

I like it. Don't like to hear it described as a 'bitza' though, that phrase smacks of shoehorning TL1000 lumps or summat into 916's (or going back to my childhood the Tribsas, Norbsas and Tritons where the engine was never, ever designed to fit that frame)

With a 996 engine that uses the same basic crankcases, pretty much the same engine design, with the same heritage but just a few evolutionary steps along the road I think that bikes like this retain their integrity.

I hope so anyway, because I'd like to do something similar to mine in the fullness of time - keeping all the original bits of course

Looks very nice to me. Its seems a shame though to cover up all the nicely shiny "mechanical gubbins" with the (admittedly equally shiny) bodywork!

phil911 27-Feb-2006 19:32

Rob,

Why did you fit extensions between the yellow rear fork and ball joints ??? The bike fits the rocking lever assy. with excentrics ...

You might be disappointed when riding if you don't adjust the rocking lever ???

Can you explain ???

Phil911

Rob B 27-Feb-2006 20:12

Phil,

I might be wrong, but from my experience with racecar suspension design. I think the rocking lever is set/adjusted to give a rocker ratio that changes the rising/falling rate. I wanted rear ride height, thus the added length of the hoop.

Frank,

That's the way they do the hose on many of the period 8xx race bikes. I could have wrapped it right around the top of the swing arn and down, anti clockwise, (I used to have it that way on the other floater) but I fancied the "rep" look with the mini caliper.

All, Thanks for the +ve comments.

Rgds, Rob

phil911 27-Feb-2006 20:34

Thanks Rob ... but feedback requested after your first curvy ride !!!

Phil911

Rob B 27-Feb-2006 20:37

It was like that last year. Mighty fine :)

phil911 27-Feb-2006 22:47

OK, so no need to change !!! ;)

italian888 02-Mar-2006 23:27

Thanks for the info on the pegs Rob. It is something I will consider instead of maybe going the rearsets. Sourcing them now is the next job. Sourcing items these days for 888's can be a job in itself.
all the best,
Rob T

Rob B 06-Apr-2006 19:47

Well, many thanks to Steve (and the boys for putting up with the row) at Motorapido.

He has worked his dyno magic so the 888 now has its FIM chip trimmed for the new motor. We have a rewarding 126.9bhp and 81.2 lf/ft of torque. I can't wait to pick it up as Steve took it for a test blat and tells me it pulls really well and wheelies like a goodun!!

:D:D

Jools 06-Apr-2006 21:22

Excellent...

Now, Smithers, creep round to Rob B's house and swap his bike for this Strada I have...he'll never notice. Mwahhahhahahhhhaaaaaa!

Rob B 06-Apr-2006 21:31

I'm sure you can have a ride when we meet up somewhere this year.
