Those look a similar shape to mine, and i fitted the sprocket cover back with it.

For me the bit to remember when fitting it is to ensure it misses the chain. The non uniform shape of the crankcase where it fits, tends to throw it at a funny angle.

A funny angle? You mean when viewed with the bike right-side up?

Right latest news on these
so far I still haven't got around to trying the sprocket cover on either my 996 or my 998 with the case protector fitte.
The protector was fairly easy to fit to my 996 where as it took a fair bit longer to fit to my 998 Testastretta engine as I had to grind a bit off the back, this will be allowed for in the mk 2 model which I will arrange to get done once I have sold this initilal batch .

As it is I have 10 in total for sale of the mk 1 type which are best suited to earlier engines 748/916/996 and probably 900ss and 888
They have not yet been tried with a sprocket cover
cost is £10 each plus P&P and can be paid by Paypal, cheque or cash

So far the following have expressed a interest and would like to know who on the list is happy to have a mk 1 as it is

Well Thankyou kind SIR

skidlids 30-May-2006 19:15

Just been out and fitted the sprocket cover to the 996. before trying to fit the cover I cut off the plastic tag that protrudes out of the sprocket side of the cover to make sure it didn't foul on the protectot. Took a couple of seconds with the hacksaw.

So now I have both the protector and sprocket cover fitted

Quick update
I have now received several payments by Cheque and Paypal and all those that have paid so far will be getting theirs sent to them in the coming week

Nat are you out with us tomorrow or can someone collect it on your behalf as its probably the best way of ensuring you get it in time for the UKMOC trackday,

Kev

Rick 04-Jun-2006 07:16

Have you tried the Mk2 ? Otherwise I will take the Mk1. Send me your PAYPAL details. Rick

GsxrAge 04-Jun-2006 11:58

Another Update

I am currently putting most of the Mk1s in Jiffy bags to send off to those that have paid, I know others have requested payment details but at the moment demand is out stripping supply so I am dealing with them in order on my list and with regard to type of machine (early models first as the MK fits OK) and then by DSC membership as indicated by a Roundel next to their board name, finally I will get to the non members.

The Mk2 prototype has now been checked out by Roachman (James) who has fitted it to his Bostrom Rep, this is his coments in a PM to me

"Fitted like a glove- with the sprocket cover on without having to remove the tab"

As soon as my Mate Adrian is back from France at the end of the week I'll give him the go ahead to make a batch.

Dougalman, Chris p., FiscusFish and Jasper I hope to have yours in the post tomorrow

Kev

Skids,

Can you knock 2 out out for me and Lil please also ;)

Drop me a PM with your details etc

doogalman 07-Jun-2006 15:47

Mine arrived today. Many thanks.
This is what is makes this club a better than others.

Gaz 748 07-Jun-2006 20:22

Got mine today, thanks Kev.

Wish I ordered a MK. 2

MK 1 a bit tight on an 02 748R

skidlids 07-Jun-2006 22:58

As mentioned when I first fitted the Mk1 to the 996 I had to give it a tweak with a set of pliers, the bit marked in Blue in the attached pic is the bit I had to tweak and on the Mk2 there is 5 to 6 mm removed from the back edge to allow better clearance between the protector and the main crankcase.

rcgbob44 08-Jun-2006 08:56

Got any piccy`s?

skidlids 08-Jun-2006 09:03

other than the ones already contained in this thread NO, I thought the 5 or so I have posted so far would be enough

Mr Creosote 08-Jun-2006 13:21

I'll take a MK2 mate. Please PM/e-mail your Paypal address - don't mind waiting for another batch. Ian.

skidlids 08-Jun-2006 19:57

Thats another added to a growing list.

I have had a couple of PM's asking when the next ones will be available.
The answer to this is next week (earliest this saturday) and then hopefully another batch the week after that.

The next batch of which I understand there will be 15 will all be Mk2s and all will be going to DSC members (as indicaated by a roundel next to their board name) first as will the first 6 from the second batch of Mk2s, after that the remainder from that batch will then go to Non DSC members that have asked for one.

At the moment I have 30 still being asked for having already used up the first batch of Mk1s.

If possible there could be some available at Castle Combe where I may allow people already on the list to pickup in person to save me some trips to the post office.

Clive 08-Jun-2006 21:28

Case protector

I'd like one to fit a 2000 996 and one to fit a 2006 ST3S if possible

regards

Clive

Athelstan 08-Jun-2006 21:39

Skids
Does it fit the ST4s with the front sprocket cover on (still awaiting your reply from my U2U) as I think you've done a great job on this and would really love to have one for me St4s.

I haven't replied for a couple of reasons
A, I wasn't confident of the MK1 fitting newer models
B, I hadn't initially tried a sprocket cover
C, Demand is currently out stripping supply as batch size is about 15 and 1 batch per week max
D, I don't intend to ask for payment until I have the items in my possesion ready to dispatch

12 from the first batch were distributed this week along with the two prototype Mk2s for friends to try and give me feed back.

As for engines that they will fit I'm no expert and would like to know what models the original Ducati one was sold for.

It looks like it will fit and please feel free to correct me

900SS/Monster, 888, 620/750/900SSie, ST2/3/4, 748/916/996/998, 749/999, M620/1000/S2R/S4/S4R, MultiStrada and I suspect the Sport Classic range

Kevin
PS, I'm heading off to Castle Combe tomorrow morning so will be away from a PC until Sunday evening (I hope)

Athelstan 09-Jun-2006 09:00

Many Thanks Skids for the Update.
I'm no mechanical expert either - sorry - but my ST4s is model year 2001 if that helps.
