Messages of this nature that contain the phrase 'Allowed memory size of xxxxx exhausted' all indicate that the system is running low on memory.

The website currently runs on a server with 256Mbytes of memory - this just isn't enough to support our needs, so I have asked for a quote from our ISP to upgrade the server. Our contract is due to expire mid July, so I am also seeking quotes from other companies to see what options are available.
I mention this not so that you can all send me emails saying '..my mate Steve can do you a good price...' :D , but more to keep you all up to date on what is happening behind the scenes.
But if your name is Steve and you run a big ISP with spare capacity, I could be interested... !!!

BTW, for the techies: a simple calculation (which I know isn't 100% correct) indicates that if we allocate 12Mbytes to each user, the current system can support just less than 20 users before memory is being swapped in/out. In the evenings we frequently exceed 50 users - hence the majority of the problems are seen in the evening session.

Why can I not upload pic into a gallery that I've just created?? I try, click on "Submit Upload More", and I get the old Page Cannot Be Displayed internet error.

Wasgoingonhere?!!!

Jasper 02-Jun-2006 20:39

Why in my signature is it putting the URL rather than the actual image??

Images cannot be placed into sig blocks - only text and smilies

Sig blocks and their usage are currently under review..........

Pictures must be less than 200Kbytes in size and be a maximum of 1280 x 960 pixels dimensions. If you exceed these limitations, it's possible that you may see an error screen. Can you check your picture size (right click on the image file, choose Properties and look at the Summary tab to see the sizes) ?

Is the server supplied by the isp and they maintain it, or can you supply your own etc.
If so I have some server kit surplus to rquirements now, free to dsc if you want it. Mostly ML350/370 G2/3 DL 360/380 G3/4 with heaps of ram , disks etc. let me know if its of any use, otherwise it's going to get broken up for parts and recycling.

Many thanks for the offer, but the kit is supplied by the ISP since they maintain the firewalls, network connections, DNS servers etc. I'd be reluctant to stray too far away from the 'simple' solution as it will only make the job harder for the next webmaster/webteam to administer.

New colour schemes

You can now try out Yellow and Charcoal colour schemes as well as the standard red scheme.

Each one also has an option suffixed with 'NoHead' - this is the same scheme as normal except the very top banner containing the DSC logo is not shown. This saves screen space for those that don't need to be reminded which website they're viewing !!

Loz 03-Jun-2006 16:58

No Head is good, me like no head. Good work, Team.

Jasper 03-Jun-2006 17:25

I Disagree.I like head.Alot!!Only receiving it mind you!!

Sorry,I'll get my coat!;)

"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 12582912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3840 bytes) in Unknown on line 0"

5 times up to now today and it's only 9.37 am.

webteam 05-Jun-2006 09:37

Yep - the memory error is happening generally, Eamonn is aware of it.

Please log out completely (if possible) or close your web page down and come back once more (Pleeze).

Please continue to flag errors, if anything different appears.

Thanks - Frank

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 12582912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 11520 bytes) in /var/www/html/dsc/forum/includes/class_core.php on line 2790

about 11 times so far this morning ?!

can you all go to work now please so I can get on ?!? LOL

mjbayley 09-Jun-2006 09:47

Where have all the 'old posts' gone ???

That a song title, isn't it ???

I just went to check the SS forum for a thread I'm sure was on there about part throttle misfires.
Lo and behold, there are no messages prior to May 10th this year?

FFS whats going on with this webshite ?

I wasn't perfect before but at least it wasn't broken!
So why 'fix' it?

Mark

It's the ones logged on at work all day that cause the problem

Iconic944ss 09-Jun-2006 10:12

The need to move to new software was necessary for both licencing and other issues.

Apologies for not having all of the Archive material in place, there have been higher priorities - but it is being worked on.

Finally Mark, many thanks for admitting you were not perfect before - nice to see :)

mjbayley 09-Jun-2006 10:29

Thank you Frank, I look forward to seeing the 'old' material.

I know I'm not perfect, (but I'm BIG and perfectly formed ;-)), but as a webteam member can you also sort for me, why, after being a member for 11 months , I've never recieved and emails from the webteam or any 'Avantis' ?
And no I havn't got 'you lot' trapped in any spam filter and yes I'm on AOL but DSC are allowed in my preferences.

Maybe 'U lot' just don't like me !

I've sent you a few U2U's Mark and just tried to email you but got the following message, not sure if it might have something to do with you not getting emails ??? You're a bit like me, not paranoid in any way it's just that everyone hates us

"Sorry! That user has specified that they do not wish to receive emails. If you still wish to send an email to this user, please contact the administrator and they may be able to help."

Should have got a letter from the membership secretary, very surprised to hear that you didn't ?

Send an email to membership@ducatisportingclub.com and it should get sorted.

This is great, this new website :)

749er 12-Jun-2006 07:14

am I having a dizzy moment here? I cant find where to change the text that sits in the area under where my post would be. At the moment it says "chillin to the smooth sounds of.........."

Cant find where to change it, and i have moved onto to Jello Biafra now!!

Iconic944ss 12-Jun-2006 09:27

Should be an 'Edit' button somewhere....sounds daft but please make sure you really are logged in!

Rob B 12-Jun-2006 09:29

Is there anyway to make the new U2U notification a liitle more obvious. By using a bBetter contrasting colour or such?

Other than that. it's great.

Regards, Rob

Iconic944ss 12-Jun-2006 09:52

Thanks Rob,

If you go to "User Settings" at the top of the screen and then "Edit Options"
(sadly in smaller writing at the LHS of the screen).

There are checkboxes under Private Messaging where you can select to have both Email notifications and a pop-up box on logging into the message board.

This link 'might' take you straight there....

logged in - check
went to user settings
looked through all of the user settings and options buttons, and nothing there.

Cant find it? Has it been removed to stop people advertising businesses etc? I see that is a hot topic at the moment

Iconic944ss 12-Jun-2006 11:20

Hi 749er,

I've check all your settings and the appear correct.

Can I suggest you work your way through the cookie item that is described in my post here:

When I access Today's Posts, it only shows me 25 threads per page, then I have to go to page two. How can I increase this number? There used to be loads more on the old site.....

Thanks.

user settigns, edit options, scroll down to thread display options, number of posts to show per page, gives you up to 100 .

you can alter other settings there for different view modes, linear, oldest first etc

Lily 12-Jun-2006 12:56

I am using 'plain white' and the text for personal messages is mising. I am guessing it is just white on a white background as the link works if you hover over it.

YMFB 12-Jun-2006 13:33

was the site down last night ?

Iconic944ss 12-Jun-2006 13:35

ATh - looks like its only set @ 40 maximum posts - will look into this or you always use the "New threads" option from the "Quick Links" button.

Lily - spot on the money, it has been pointed out - not quite figured a workaround yet! - Check your notification options from user prefs if you are not seeing PM's come on

oops sorry didnt read ath's post correctly :( its an admin setting - admin panel, vbulletin Options, message searching options, default is 25 per page if you haven't found it Frank.

Lily 12-Jun-2006 14:25

Frank

i get the Pm pop up so its fine. I think you need to change the colourings in the skins so it is not white. Can't remember the option but I am pretty certain Michael will know.

Has ANYBODY had success in accessing the members only area?
I'm constantly getting "must have cookies enabled" even though I have enabled, disabled, destroyed all cookies associated with the site.
