It needs to have 160 bhp and be around the same weight as the jap litre bikes and cost less than 11 grand

If so then maybe !!!!well probably !!!!

I can hear it already , you sold your bloody Ducati (998) to get the Blade and now you want another Ducati :)

I Will wait till i see it in the flesh and get a demo before risking a divorce ;)

Hmmm...not doing it for me either to be honest.

If you look at the profile it looks really long and nose heavy. The end of the nose almost reaches the tip of the front mudguard and is way out in front of the axle. If you look at the 999 profile it's nose is also in front of the axle but not by as much, and the 916 series bikes it was almost in line. There just looks like a huge gap between the bars and the fairing.

I know that the Japanese and Triumph 675 (ahh, now I know what those headlights remind me of) designers work hard to give their bikes a 'face' - They usually try to go for attitude by making the bikes 'face' aggresive, like a mechanical shark or something off of 'Transformers'.

In this case, to my eyes, the new bikes 'face' seems to have slanted eyes, a 'guiseppe' moustache and seems to have a hare lip...

Wait to see it in the flesh I think

MJS 07-Nov-2006 17:23

I have this feeling that in the flesh it will look stunning. The 749/999 shape looks strange in photos but in the flesh they are a stunning looking machine. I have a feeling this one will be the same... I certainly hope so anyway...

the phantom pieman 07-Nov-2006 18:35

It a Triumph 675 !!

ziggi 07-Nov-2006 20:50

It just don't look quite right. Especially the tank.

If this is it then the future is bright, the future is orange - well for me anyway

I'm sure that by the London shows there will be loads of goodies for the 1098.
Will look even better when tricked up a bit.

yeah, I love the 999/749 style but I like the 916 style too. They are both strong and individual, leaps and bounds ahead of the Japanese stuff, in the main. As someone else has said, the bike in the photo looks like a bit of a mish mash, of 916 and 999. Really wish they had adopted the the sedici exhaust for the mono. I like most of it a lot. I could live with the exhausts as they are, but feel they are a step back, The seat unit/tail light section is just awful though, thats the only thing I would have a big issue with and would want to change.

Be interesting to see how people feel about the single sided swinger when they see the R version doesnt have it, as it needs to be homologated for WSB/BSB. Also be interesting to see how much of a difference there is in the feel of the ride.

I don't like it - if that's the best ducati can do after months of developement it's a big dissapointment. I thought the 1098 was supposed to borrow design features from the old 916 in an updated way, but if you compare the two they hardly look like they are from the same factory.

I'm no fan of the 749/999 design either but actually prefer it to the 1098 which says a lot. Can't see this being the bike that'll have punters flocking to Ducati showrooms. Are Ducati losing the plot... I mean what's the hypermotard all about?

The front end looks like a photoshop of several Jap sportsbikes, while the seat unit's too bulky at the front (making tank look too small) and ends in a poor copy of the MV tail light. As for the twin pipes - those cans are ugly and the angled outlets look wrong.

I like it and would buy one, I also like the Hypermotard and would buy one of those too...

Just wanna see them both in the flesh before my wallet comes out...

Thats how I feel about birds too....

What happened to the Milan secret unveilling then ???
Did Bologna bottle it with all the leaked photos ??

IMHO

still not sure I like it, bit too "bitsa" for me
not sure it's a new design ? looks like a bit of a combo job

front nose looks way too jap and I've only just got away from all that !!
maybe it will look better in the flesh ?!

guess I'll wait for thr 'R' as I've been spoilt now !!! LOL

G

I like the hypermotard tho ! that's something new !!

zhed44 08-Nov-2006 17:20

Who let the dogs out!?

From the pics in MCN. it looks like Frankenstein's monster type amalgamation of a Triumph 675 (lights), a 999 (seat), an Aprilla Mille (tail unit) and an MV Augusta (rear light unit). And those exhausts look too heavy. When I saw the picks of the mule in MCN a few weeks ago, I thought "surely they're gonna change the tail pipes?", but apparently not. Ooooops.

Another opportunity wasted IMHO.

Guess the 916 is still the Albatross round their neck, 'cos I don't think they'll ever make another bike as beautiful, and every Ducati supersports will always be measured by that yardstick . Sigh :)

Still, I'll reserve judgement until I see it in the tin and I'm sure Ducati will be holding their breath until I do....

itexuk 08-Nov-2006 17:39

I Hope that is not it.
Prefer the looks of the 749 / 999

Sharpy G 08-Nov-2006 23:25

I think a friend of mine summed it up for me today........

he's not a biker, but I think he may be soon !

He thought my bike (749R) looked like a race bike with lights and a number plate
& the 1098 looked like a normal road bike !!!

interesting thought
