I think you will find they have no intention of doing a 'bip' 'sedici Keefer-apart from the one that Randy Mamola rides................

Would be a good to have done it that way for the mono and done it the 916 way for the bip. A superbike aint a superbike when its carrying pillion.:D

love it - much better on the eye IMO than the 749/999 series, just need to persuade the missus...

i dont dislike the new bike i just dont think it is a leap forward like it should be apart from the engine that is i bought my 999 because i thought it was a completly new and different bike from my 748 and it was i just dont think the 1098 is. think the the rear end on me 999 is like nothing else out there twin pipes (r1 zx10 bmw)

all personal i know but the 749/999 rear as in your pic is far better the the 1098 and unique imho.

exactly - if you like it enjoy it, you'll probably still be quicker than your m8 on his 1098. Just that when he gets in the bike park 2 minutes after you, don't be too upset when everyone looks at his bike not yours.

749/999 V 1098

interesting how perspective can change your opinion. having said that, I dont like the revised taller screen on the 2005+ 749, and that side view shows why

Seems to me its progressed from the 916 rather than the 999,maybe its the bike they should have made in between!! From some angles i like it others not. But i do think it will appeal to the jap buying market.

The 749 just looks so cluttered in this pic . whereas the 1098 has stylish un-cluttered lines that are soft on the eye.:D

glad of that, I didn't want a 'soft' bike ! :lol:

Have to say, from the rear, mostly, I like it !! the 1098 that is (filthy minded peeps):lol::lol:

and just think of the great big bit of carbon I could replace that pipe heat guard with !!

I also think its nice they even dug out those ol' fashioned fuel cap toolings for the new bike to keep you happy, maybe it's s'posed to be Retro like the SportClssic etc ...............ha ha

I'll take the top one(04 model tho!)
I dont mind the 1098 but dont see the point in going backwards with some of its design, its a bit of an exercise in "how to spoil an iconic design"
It may grow on me but i think it will date quickly were as the 749/999 has got better with age

Think you are right there, in 10 years time I am pretty sure the 999 design will look modern, a bit like the mk2 Toyota MR2, still doesn't look out of place on the roads

anyone else noticed how far off the frame/subframe line the exhaust run is on the 1098 ? huge gap between the pipes and the tail, looks like it's hanging low to me, not neat & sexy like the 749/999

shame 'cos the seat and side panels are growing on me, would look sweeter with a tucked in pipe run

Have to say, they all look stunning - I'd quite happily have any one of those 3.....

Having waited with anticipation for quite a while to see the new bike and read all the comments by folk about this bike,it seems to me the consenus opinion of this model is...yes it's good (I think the performance is it's main selling point) but,it doesn't grab you with a "run to your dealer now" feeling.

If this was an Aprillia,Yam,Suz etc we would all probably be fine with it,but the level of expectation with Ducati is different,whose core brand differenciation is Design (like Ferrari,MV,ALFA etc). Many of us are picking up on the Design inconcistancies i.e;

1.Exhaust/seat relationship or should I say,attractive seat with an exhaust thats being designed in isolation without ever seeing what it will be sat next to.

2.Heat shield.... say no more....buteasily sorted

3.Fairing side. This is fine but not striking,dynamic,different...back to expectations and what Ducati is known for.If you look at the images of the three bikes above,look at the sophisticated and elegant suface of the 996, the dynamic and new treatment of the 999 and then we have the 1098...which is fine but doesn't excit.

4. Lights/air intake. quite interesting,no strong feeling for or against.

These in isolation don't sound that big a problem when you put them in the context of the jap stuff (gixa 1000 exhausts,people accept them), but what you do expect with ducatis is a cohesive and sophisticated design.Look at the above images and thats what we have, even if people don't gell with the 999,its still consistent with its self.

Yes,we haven't seen it in the flesh,and yes it will grow on us but I'd be very interested to see how many deposits are being put down.I do think its biggest selling point and a great one is the performance.... but if thats al I wanted I would buy jap stuff. I want performance and DESIGN.
