Ere Roy, how about an R1 instead.... :D

DJ Tera 20-Apr-2004 22:37

Mmmmmm the 2004 R1 is pretty damn sexy too - bit pricier though - found brand new zx-10s for £5200 in Canada! :o

Now to find a way of getting round the VAT... any accountants on here?
Apparently if a international company transfers its goods from one country to another, they don't pay the VAT and Import duty?? So, if I were to buy the bike under a company name and bring it over, do ya reckon its possible to get around it?

madmav 20-Apr-2004 22:51

Be careful

hey dj some canadian imports are really underpowerd ! do your homework !

regards mav:cool:

Speak to Paul (Ozz) about company accounts - he'll know.

You should be able to claim the VAT if it's used for businesses purposes in this country, and you may be able to write some of it off against tax too. This is what the guy who bought my bike new did.

The inconsistent clutch biting point suggests one of two poss failures from my experience, iether the master cylinder itself is worn allowing the seals to'slip' down the bore without sealing and not displacing the fluid or possibly a snapped clutch pushrod, can you borrow another master cylinder and try that? when annettes pushrod snapped the clutch biting point was really erratic (and there was me thinking 'she can wheelie better than me').
hope im not confusing the issue more

dave

DJ Tera 21-Apr-2004 14:25

Dave, I spoke to Mav last night and he talked me through what to do next - he suspects it might be the slave cylinder gone - had a couple of interviews today so haven't had a chance to check yet, will hopefully have time later on... if it is the master cylinder, its finally given me an excuse to upgrade to radial cylinders ;)

Antony mate, my thoughts exactly, my dad has a registered company for tax purposes etc, so just need to find out the details now, like what constitutes 'business use' etc... will have a word with Ozz and see what he thinks :D

Is it only me who thinks the ninja looks funky in orange? :rodent:

'Funky' is not the word I'd have used...

Funky in orange

Yes, to a blind man in a welder's mask...

DJ Tera 21-Apr-2004 17:11

Whateva, beanflicker! :P

quote [Decided to try to bleed the sodding clutch, air got into the system, and I cant bloody get it out] At the beginning you said this... if youd of said.... quote [Problem is it WAS broke, been getting totally inconsistent lever pressure lately] i suspect you would of saved yourself a lot of, quote [Been standing around like a lemon pumping the lever etc and I'm getting nowhere fast After an hour theres still no resistance at the lever] .... :P:P:P

DJ Tera 22-Apr-2004 00:45

Why is that andy? Maybe the fluid had never been changed? That could have caused the inconsistent pressure?

rockhopper 22-Apr-2004 08:52

I think what he means is that if you originally had a problem with a spongy lever then did you find out what caused that problem and fix it before you tried to bleed it? Old fluid wouldnt cause it. Air in the system would and the only way air can get in is through a duff seal or a perished hose.

andyb 22-Apr-2004 21:31

oh yes!!

DJ Tera 23-Apr-2004 20:37

THANKYOU MAV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your help buddy, drinks are on me at Cadwel!l (provided I get the handling sorted in time)

The piston was jammed solid in the cylinder, applied the 'rattler technique'* ;)
and presto! Lever pressure has returned
:sing::sing:

Bloody good thing as well - the soonest most dealers could fit the bike in was the end of May :o

Ducati really need to get their arse into gear and start making places like Cornerspeed official service centres, maybe the waiting list wouldn't be so long!

* 'it it wiv an 'ammer!!! :biaggi:

Well as we\'ve all followed this epic tale from beginning to end, DJ,

please explain exactly what the "rattler" technique is.

Just so we know, like....

Dibble 24-Apr-2004 12:42

The "Rattler" technique stems from his methodology that all things are repairable with a hammer ....

It is written in DSC folklore along with other mysteries such as Fordies age and The Flux Capacitor .....
