Maybe Class A bikes should be on Z rated tyres.........;)

Otei 14-May-2009 23:37

I want a go on a 583 now.

Considering how many people have decided not to race in DD class A this year, where the hell are the bikes, cos I haven't seen THAT many for sale either pre season or during this year?

Hands up if you've still got one under a blanket in the garage!!??

NBs996 15-May-2009 19:32

well #34 is still on track.
i'd probably still be competing if the alternative was to hide it under a blanket.
Anyway, the bike's getting used AND it's getting a well earned rest at the same time! ;)

AK 15-May-2009 21:16

got the stuff to put one of ours back to class a if i wanted.
but have moved on these days

Which was a big part of the intent of DD... as a stepping stone.
It's been great for me too, even though I'm only bashing things with spanners this year, the 4 seasons of DD has got me well into the world of club racing.
Wouldn't be doing it without the kick start through DSC.
Wouldn't have raced on telly.
Wouldn't have helped staff a WSB meet.
Wouldn't have become a much better track rider (ok, so it's all relative!)
then again, I wouldn't have been lapped by Christian Iddon!!

There is a head on Ebay at the moment for £90, so for a pair of heads, barrels and pistons your probably looking at £250 to £300 providing you have the late engine, by the time you look at adding a crankshaft you may as well be buying a 620 engine (earlier ones are 5 speed later ones 6 speed) prices vary depending on age, mileage etc.
If you could run carbs then you would just need some jetting work done to your old 583 carbs.
The alternative to carbs is fuel injection in one form or another, the original setup with Injector bodies, higher pressure fuel pump, coded clocks, ECU, keys and Harness will set you back a fair bit
There is an alternative of going with a non standard non coded ECU such as a FIM module (not cheap) and you still need the harness for the 5.9M type ECU, throttle bodies, pump etc or you could use a 750SSie ECU with a harness from either the 750SSie/900SSie or the M900ie along with a power commander, pump and throttle bodies

Most people are already runing 40mm pipes so no real cost there.

Then again for those wanting to move into class A there are bikes like Trouty's out there for £2k, you can alternatively buy a standard road 620 for less than that.

Going the carbed 750 route may well have tyre implications as well as the age of the engines and spares availability

some may find this of interest

750 bottom end, 583 cyls, 620 pistons , 750 heads..............

mmmmmmmintresting tell more young man spill the beans:confused:

bradders 16-May-2009 18:30

didnt give it a decent go last year, so plan is get fitter and a little lighter, then have a bit more power!!

Bushell has said if I dont lose too much I can run in class B with a 620 as I'm handicapped so much in power to weight.

;) :D :burn:

I'll be there...

....just as soon as I've finished raising the funds to buy a bike. Just for once I'm being fiscally sensible and have decided that my entire year's racing, including buying the bike, van and gear, and paying for entries, must be funded by selling off some of the vehicles that I basically don't use, or won't be using once I'm spending my weekends racing.

Sadly it's going rather slowly coz I spend so much time at work but, Speed Triple and 750 Paso sold, just a 955 Sprint, a '95 Fireblade and a Mk1 MX5 left to sell.....anyone?

Steve Hands #42
(or possibly #39 - I'm still a little unclear on this point. Dominic?)

Well,

I have actually found myself not being able to read this thread as fast as you guys have been posting on it! We actually have 27 riders registered for Class A in 2007, they have paid their registration fees!

I am not certain why some ofthem have not come out and raced, I understand that Claire and Jon out out of action for a while, but I am sure that we will see grids expanding.

As for a weight "handicap" for a 620 in Class B, the rules say NO!

I am still around, yet to actually make it to a race this year due to a variety of things, mainly writing the bike off at brands earlier. still a replacement is being prepared as we speak.
