How much is the conversion?

Sigma or Cornerspeed?

£800-£900 knicker + labour

Tripple that for my 998 upgrade to my 748RS and then you need the R or the RS frame to start with. Mind you selling the original RS parts get most of that money back
996 conversion makes good sense as you can always get a bit back for the 748 bits left over

DC.;)
bring it out any time mate.
:D
everyone is talking about how much power you can get out of a 853 but remember that once at that limit you are at the end of the road.
if you have a 996 lump you still have all the possibilities that were available to the 748 engine.
so a 996 with big bore tuned heads cams timed and so on will still be more than a 853 will put out.
that's the rote I took. 118HP with just a chip and pipes. and when the winter comes round (project time) watch out.

Hang on a minute,

What I am trying to say is,............... the bike that I now have is good enough on the road, or I like the power that it makes. Its enough to stay with most bikes on the road going from A to B. If I wanted the biggest V twin engine, tuned to the hilts then I would get a 999r or a 955. Or perhaps another TL1000s and sort out the chassis.

I stated that my bike is still stamped as a 748 but makes the power of a 916. For me, thats quick enough and it keeps the insurance down. I am sure that a 996 would outgrunt my bike but not by that much.

Yes, I could have got a 748R and then converted that but I started with the bike I have and like I have stated, its an on going project or thing with my bike. I had the conversion done at the time I had the engine stripped and fully serviced, so I did not have to shell out for the labour of fitting the 853 kit.

I do not like spending more money than riding the damn thing, its gets used all the time. And if people worry about investments...............then put your money into something else. My bike was bought to be used, it is used and its worth what its worth.

At the end of it all, you pay your money, you take your pick blah blah.;):P And I do not have bottomless pockets. Just work bloody hard and do lots of overtime.

wasn't having a pop DC just a bit of banter with the bring it out any time stuff :burn:
my comments about what is available from a 853 is not derogatory just that you can ultimately get more out of a 996.
price motivated me in the end and it seemed cheaper to get the 996.
if the 853 kit had been less I would of gone down that road as you know
:eureka:

had exactly the same thougts 18m ago...ended up with a 916sps for similar money to that of converting but came with bits like ohlins etc and is an icon..and loads more power and torque too!

I know u were not having a pop mate and I did not take your post in that way.;)Just trying to say that each person takes their own route and has reasons for doing it. Thats all.

For me its boils down to not wanting to pay over a £1000 per year for insurance in central london. My R1 used to cost less to insure than my Ducati. :o

Laterz.................

DC, you seem to be saying that your 853 is insured as a 748.

Did your insurance company not ask you if your bike was modified or non-standard in any way ?

Mine always does.
