:puzzled: Why would it look like a ringer? If the original number is still on the headstock, adding the same number alongside it for all to see should not be a problem. I accept that the integrity of the original number has been lessoned slightly by the sandblast but you would hardly be trying to cover up the fact. Or tampering with whats left of the original number. Open and honest. Perhaps get a dealer to re stamp and keep the paperwork?? DC.;) [Edited on 1-2-2006 by DC] |
Hi Simon, that sounds pretty shite. As others have pointed out you def need to be able to see it for the new M.O.T. system. Even if it had'nt been virtually rubbed off i doubt you could powder coat over it as the coating is pretty thick and would prob fill the numbers in. Ive spoken to John at Veloce in Swardestone ( our local Ducati dealer ) he seems to think he would have no prob restamping for you if you take the frame, then tape over them before powder coating. Hope thats of help mate. Simon |
As pointed out the original VIN number is a series of dots and so long as you can just about make out where they are I would have thought you could go over them with a automatic hand held dot puncher. Its certainly what I would do if I were in your situation http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTOMATIC-CENT... QcmdZViewItem |

Cheers for doing that i will defo ask them to do it as i want it to look perfect, the resale value and the struggle to mot it when its due for renewal did worry me ,but not as much as seeing it in its current condition scared the crap out of me and was suprised how quickly the numbers vanished makes ringing a bike to easy.. Did they say how they would do it either letters or dotpunch???? cheers for all ya advice also got neighbours minimoto done as well and his is looks a lot worse but will look good when powdercoated Cheers all Simon |
What a mishap! I'd second skidlids recommendation. The man knows. |
The numbers are so faint i cant make them out...plus not sure i could make it look nice :( Will take a pic after tea so you can decide what my best plan of action is Simon |
Not been funny did you pay for the service? if so and he is a pucka business claim off him...mate or no mate he has f****d your bike making it almost worthless (if you can't get the frame number thing sorted). Sorry had a bad day and not in a forgiving mood:flame: I do hope you manage to get it sorted mate. Oh I ran a fireblade with no frame number what so ever for a year on the road before I sold it:puzzled: |
didnt pay for it but that aint the point....and the bike being worthless etc has been f****ng me of all day Simon |
What on earth makes you think it's worthless ? I bought a Ducati from Dallas (skidlids mate) which had the frame powder coated. It never affected the buying price or the price i sold it for. |
