simple thing mate... take half an hour out on one of each....:) |
CBR600 is a great bike ... as a reference to how much better Ducatis are!! RedSPS bike is something special. It is not the latest, shiniest Duke indeed but it is a legend & some piece of exotica like all SP / SPS / R bikes. Only thing though, if you have not been biking for long, you will scare yourself sh**less for a month on an SPS! Those bike really go some!! |
list price sounds expensive fella - and its an 02 model - on the flip side i bet the dealer wouldn't offer you more for it as a trade in just cos its grey/black, look around there are better deals to be had unless you are so struck on the colour you consider it to be viable value |
Grey ones look a bit tatty after a few years as well. They go kind of shiny when you polish them unless you are super careful. Paul. |
Think there was a grey one in the market section of MCN last week. Basically ditto with everyone on price - too expensive. Good advice from Bluebell - take a 748 and a 600RR for a test ride. Buy the one that leaves you with the biggest grin! ;) |
I've been following this thread and I've stuck my 2p worth of advice in as well BUT I just wanted to say "don't let us put you off!" We're all giving you our opinions with great hindsight, but if you really want a grey 748S and you're happy to pay the full price for it, then go for it! I really wouldn't want to think that I'd put you off getting the bike you really wanted, and you ended up hating/regretting your purchase. Owning a Ducati is abuot so much more than which bike you have, and the purchasing of the bike is only the start ... trust me when I say you'll soon be spending your hard earned cash on all the goodies to go with it! Whatever you choose, don't forget to bring it along to your local DSC meeting and say hello to everyone! Good luck! :D |
Thanks for Replying antonye, I still like the 748s in grey, but am put off by what my dealer is offering, as he dosen't seem to want to give anything in with deal even paying full list. Gonna go to Fowlers soon and see wahat they offer on a similar priced bike for comparison. Will let you know how I get on. Thanks Lee1980 ;) |
Went to Fowlers and got £500 more for p/x. He had the little book they use, the same one the guy used at Ducati dealer. This was on a £7000 cbr600rr. £500 less on a £8700 748s. Thinking of the standard 748 now not much different apart from wheels/colour other changes wouldn't affect me much. Going for a test ride on Sat. So lets pray for no rain! :sing::sing::sing: Thanks Lee1980 ;) |
In my opinion ... stick with the S model if you can. It has slightly better toys than the standard Bip and the lighter (5-spoke) wheels really do make a difference, as well as the Showa forks and shock. My preference would still be for a year-old R model, as you're really getting the same age bike, but that's your choice! How about one of these? Quote:

Hi, Antonye Really want a new one, and insurance on the S is steep enough. Will see what I can get into the deal, just seen in MCN that Onyerbike are doing them for £8500, so will ask if they will match that. Will also aee if they have the S in yellow/red. Pray for no rain! Lee1980 ;) |
