does it? check that out - just disconnect the lamp I would have thought?? ABS does not usually (I am told!) affect braking capability, just an addition to what is already there to stop skidding

tell me about my ABS.....???? Any ideas??? If I can fix it myslf without taking it to a dealer I'd be much happier....

Blinkin thing starts with ABS on, when you press the brakes it judders and squeels (like ABS is on in slowmo)
After a couple of attempts at braking the ABS warning light comes on and it's fine?????

I did check it out...ABS wont fail MOT unless the warning light comes on in the car, if it's disconected it should be ok. At the moment if it's put on a rolling road those brakes are dodgy until the light goes off, it almost feels like its locking one wheel:(

Renault megane, my girlfriend has one and I have spent far too much time messing with the electrics. There seems to be a design fault with them in that there is a main fuse box to the left of the battery (looking from the front of the car) what happens is the water runs off the screen into the fuse box. Lisas was in such a state that all the fuses were totally corroded and stuck in place and she was getting all sorts of weird electrical problems. I managed to clean it all up and the car worked ok for 6 months and it all started again so I bought a new fuse box which was about £50 from renault. All was ok for another 9 months and then the coil pack gave up. It may be worth checking that fuse box as it did cause all sorts of strange faults.

If the vehicle is fitted with an anti-lock braking system, check that
a warning lamp is fitted
b. the lamp illuminates
c. the lamp follows the correct sequence of operation
Note: The sequence varies with the type of system. Refer to the manufacturer’s or other reliable data, eg purpose produced charts, books etc d. indicates an ABS fault

Oh dear, Oh dear, just got rid of my company car, it was a Laguna 1.9tdi, what went wrong
new intercooler, new turbo,new front suspension, new steering rack, new gearbox, new clutch, suspension arms, bushes etc etc, it was a nightmare, glad to have gotten rid of it. Got a Toyota Avensis 2.0tdi now, its ace:D

must say in defence of the french cars
my peugeot 406 estate that iv'e had for four years and done 15,000 miles a year
only money spent on it, tyres n exzaust
havn't even changed the oil!!!

compared to the vauxhall astra i had it's a dream.
the damn astra was a nightmare
