About 18 months ago had a Sunbeam Lotus sitting in the garage for about a year, only needed a bit of work to get it back on the road, but never got round to it.

Sold it to a mate who sorted it out in about a month, got to drive it (had owned previously as rally cars) and was disappointed, things had moved on. I guess the point is not to compare with modern cars, and accept the older stuff for what it is.

Still look at some "classics" and get an attack of nostalgia. Could probably cure myself of that by hiring something from the many companies that have sprung up in recent years:D

Ray.

I wish i could

put up my pictures !

I have a pic of 7 or 8 240/260 Z's out side my work shop !
back in the 80's I used to restore/tune etc etc
peeps came from miles around to have them done !
eventually I sold the business out to a guy named William galliers in shrewsbury ! some cash and the original "BIG SAM" wonder if anyone on here knew what that was?

anyway
tripple webber conversions were my speciality and later putting 280 heads on 260 engines ! phew < a trip down memory lane ! I'll see if I can find the pics!

before those days I was into 1600E and lotus cortinas
lets meet up and have a beer and bring out the albums !

Mav - a man after my own heart!

I love Z cars :D

I like the 1600 too :D

I've got an Aston Martin DBS V8! Absolutely awesome in every respect. Has the added bonus of making the Duke positively frugal to service!

Mav,Big Sam was the 240Z built by Spike Anderson i think for use in saloon car racing, driven i think by Win Percy?
Samurai on the side of it somewhere i think. Was it built by samurai motorsport or something. I remember William Galliers having loads of parts and ex rally cars etc around that time.Small world hey.

Lotus Cortina's eh Mav-hmmm-I used to go to college with a load of guys who worked for ForMoCo back in the late 60's. I of them built an E93A with a full Lotus Cortina underneath-that used to fly-for it's time anyway. I was more into VW beetles, put a 1600 Super 90 Porche engine and transaxle in one, changed the front hubs for the Porche ones as well. Engine got a bit smokey so we all went down to Autocavan who were the main dealers to enquire about replacement barrels and pistons-£40 each + another £40 for the gasket set-£200-they were having a laugh, that was a lot more than I paid for the whole car they came out of. Took the lump out and sold it to a Porche enthusiast and built a fast 1600 VW lump for the money I got for the Porche lump-4 barrel Holley carbs anyone?
