'cos I was an avid fan of Neighbours when I was at college so got called "Jason" (as in Donavan). And of course being a scouser my mates added "Boswell" (from the 80's sitcom Bread) on the end. Its stuck ever since.

Mine was the first web name I ever had, my initials (RCG) - Bob (short for Robert & my house number & caliber of my Smith & Wesson at the time.

Jools 18-Dec-2006 11:09

Well, my real name is Julian. Not such a bad name when you're an adult, but when you're a kid at primary school you get all the other kids following you round chanting "Julie, Julie, Julie..", then when everybody grew out of that some bubblegum band of the day came out with a song that went "J..j..j..j..j..j..j..Julie-Anne" in the chorus and it all kicked off again.

No doubt due to an old 1950's radio show called 'Round the Horne" where they had Kenneth Williams and some other bloke playing two outrageously camp characters called "Julian and Sandy", I've also had to put up with people going into the hand on hip, limp wristed 'teapot' impressions and lisping "Ooooh, Julian". I was just starting to see the back of the campness associated with my name when along came Julian bloody Clary

When we started learning French at school, the teacher gave us all the French version of our name, so I became Jules and it stuck.

Years later, I was playing in a band called Axis on the local and London pub circuits and there were some fly posters printed up where the printer had spelled my name Jools, some journos from Melody Maker, NME and Musicians Only picked up on that spelling of my nickname in reviews of our gigs* and the spelling stuck.

*Sounds more impressive than it was, we only merited a couple of column inches in any review before this 'prog' band got swept aside by the punk explosion.
