Frank OMG

dropping the forks so you can fit clip ons above the headstock, blah dee blah
wot the ferg will that do to the steering geometry
me thinks you'll either turn in so quick, you'd have to wait until half way towards the apex, or turn in so slow, that youd start pullin on the bars 1/2 mile before the bend. dont know which it is, Im sure one of our more learned colleagues will tell soon enuff:o

Hee Hee - yep, I also WANT to speed up the steering which is also what I hope to achieve. I read on a usa website that a guy dropped the yokes by upto 15mm !!!! without too adverse an effect - with the thin clipons I'm looking at I only need about 5 to 8mm - so yep I guess trying the mod first is the right first step tp take.......

My how this thread has changed over time

I have 22mm above the yokes and the handling is good. I'm also considering fitting clip-ons above the yokes but haven't found any suitable yet. At least not at a reasonable price.

here are some nice reasonably priced ones - £90 and I think R1 bars are 50mm

I have 18 mm of fork leg showing above the yoke and on the road I had no problems at all. On the track however it led to even worse ground clearance problems to the point where I discovered what it felt like to fly.... :( (Note to self must hang off even more...)

With the rear shock off of a later SS on though (One from an SSie) I didn't experience any problems (On the one outing I had like it). I guess I'll find out for sure once it warms up a bit...

Cheaper riser kit

I remember finding a kit that looked good in the M&P catalogue - it is a bolt on 'L' - clamp that allows you to fit your preferred bar choice.....50mm part no is 523314.....

I'll try and fit a piccy in here.

£62.69 inc. seems good to me !!!

happy surfing - Frank
