post removed (advertising) Webteam, sometimes,in search of "money" we tend to lose sight of the things that made the DSC what it is! I more than anyone understands the need to re-think the strategy of the Business. so i ask this. The members who have paid the "fee" to join the Dsc,usually sport the T-shirt, the Decal's on their bikes etc etc. so does that mean that the DSC pays all the paid up members a commision for actively promoting the club? On the basis that the idea of commercial advertising for some of the members (like me) is to pay a fee to the club inturn for a spot on the board where members can see what i sell! so will this mean when i have paid my said fee, no other none fee paying member can then promote another company doing the same thing as me? Are there going to be different levels in which i can advertise Ie My trips to the nurburgring clearly benifit me!!! so therefore i deserve to pay for the benifit. BUT then if say, I offer a service by where it clearly would benifit the member , would this be cheaper? AND THEN ONCE I paid my money could a none paying member then post up a thread offering someone elses service of the same nature for free ! I'm not being antagonistic, just trying to get my head round the situation!! Ie If i post a new thread up (hope it does not get deleted) and your rules say it is blatent advertising ploy and then you remove it !!!! does it then mean that if say Tp/Bdg/ rattler etc, puts a post on ,openly promoting my business, would it then be allowed to stay? webteam can you throw some light on this for all of us self-employed guys /gals or even the few millionaires on here? ps Steady hand on this post FLANKS;) |
Good idea Mav. I'd be up for some of that action too. Was thinking about running trips to Germany to ride around the 'ring  Actually, I'd advertise my website business ;) :D [Edited on 25-10-2005 by domski] |

As possibly the only person who may not understand what has happened ( It's an age thing ) do I take it that your post disapeared because it was an advert? Phil:puzzled: |
I don't understand what's going on!?! What was it an advert for Mav ;) |
no don't think it was an advert it was a question as posted above it was deleted by accident and we invited mav to post it again as he has done. Now the advertising issue in answer to my brummie friend: Probably best that Eamonn answers this one but in his absence I will chuck in my 2 cents: The answer that we came to at the AGM when it was discussed was that we would overcome this by allowing some commercial pages within the site that the seller would have control over, thereby allowing instant updates, special offers etc. The problem with this website is that 99% of its use is focussed around the message board, - we as a club need to address that by improving the other pages around it. The subject of advertising on the message board is a difficult one, my own view is that it should not be used as such, we let one in, and then we could be overrun with adverts for everything, but until we have these commercial pages we cannot offer an alternative. Clearly there are some great “traders” that add value with their association to us, personally I wish we could do more with those guys, but we as a club get stuck in no mans land pleasing nobody by trying to retain a neutral stance. So sorry these commercial pages should have been done before now but we all within the MT have jobs and family that come first and I am not about to ask that people put more time in; this a voluntary role that we all take. As has been said before we run this club in a business like way, without doubt there is enough work for 2 people to be employed Monday to Friday. Just taking today as an example I would estimate I have spent 4-5 hours on club business, Chris Bushell probably the same, Monty has been involved, as has Paul James, other non MT people like Charlotte and Michael Winter have spent considerable time on club business, then we have Lizzie’s almost daily work on membership, - it goes on. The club has grown significantly this year, not just membership but with events. We need more people helping and getting involved to be honest. My own view is that we need more of a Northern focus, we need more work on regional groups, sorry I am rambling (again) and going off topic. [Edited on 25-10-2005 by Ian] |
