Some reckon the early 749r are better value than a 999r, more goodies as standard just lacking the oomph of the 999 motor. If you're coming from a 748r the routine service costs engine wise are similar, you wont miss what you haven't had in relation to the 999 motor either.

As for depreciation, sure you get a big hit early on but if you are looking at a 2004 model then it should have eased off a bit. Have a look on www.autotrader.co.uk to see what sellers think they are worth now. I'd guess you are looking at about £9000 as we head into Winter!!! For very similar £££ you can get a 999r maybe just a little older but then you might not get the nice swing arm. Swings and roundabouts,

if you do get a 749r don't ever sell it, you will regret it :sniff:

Go for it,best bike Ducati have ever built.
Go for the 04 carbon and make sure its had the clutch changed under warranty.
Leave it totally standard,dont bother blinging it up.

I have seen them from around £9000 standard but I think everyone adds bits to a Ducati and my spending is up to about £18,000 !!! so if I was ever to part with it I would expect very good money for it.

Interesting thread this. I'm considering getting a 749R. But what I was wondering is - if there's a replacement for the 999 coming later this year, what will happen to the 749 - will that be getting replaced as well?

If it does, and if the new models are a success, will they hit the residual values of the 749/999 range - ie would I end up spending 10k only to find the value plummet when the new models hit the market?
