Actually ill probably for for a 998R or a MV F4 1000 (according to MCN this is will be better than the R1 and RSV) but again MVs are uninsurable for under 28s, i tried but no success, anyway ive already got an MV to play with ;)

If this ‘is’ your first bike I strongly wouldn’t recommend getting a 748 or 900 Monster or any bike twin!

Its best to start off with something a little smaller and a little cheaper. Remember at the end of the day no matter how good you think you are, you will drop it especially if experience is minute and you are riding a powerful twin. I must stress that power delivery on twins is totally diverse to 4s and smaller bikes i.e. small singles. Also big twins, if not used properly they can throw you off especially in the wet.

I advise getting something a little smaller as a starter/first bike... i.e. a little 400 or a SV650.

I started with a 50cc at 16, then a 125, then I got a ZXR400, which was a great little bike, then, a ZX6R, again after that I bought a new CBR600RR (after I had built up my experience on the others and crashed them) and then the 748R.

I’ve got to admit I was like you, I also wanted to go out and spend loads of money on a big bike, but that really wouldn’t have been a clever idea.

If this is your first bike, and you have had little road experience and the bike is mainly for road riding, then 6k to spend on a bike is not the way to do things! You can learn the hard or easy way. Trust me the hard way isn’t nice, I remember seeing my parents faces’ when I had my first ‘big’ crash when I was 17 (which incidentally was another road users fault), it wasn’t good, my mother was heart broken. If I had bought a brand new shiny Duke, and this happened it would have cost major $$$, luckily it was only a little 125 and was easily sorted J Had the same problem with cars, but because I remembered my past experiences I held out on a sports car till a year ago.

Riding bikes on the road is not easy (not trying to put you off), there are many dangers that can be caused both by the riders and others (i.e. car drivers, pedestrians etc). For a start, most people can’t see bikes nor do they understand that the balance is different to four wheels when you are on a bike.

You are still young and have years to come, take it step by step!

Remember it isn’t always good to have it all at once, you get bored too easily, this is the same with girls.

6k for a first bike is way OTT.

In my very honest opnion i wouldn't go for a duke as a first bike,why not a gixxer 600 or Kwak 636?more than enough power for public roads.

And you always crash your first bike,id rather crash a gixxer or kwak than a nice 748.

Im 18 as well,
I had a cagiva mito 125 first and now a 400,both awesome handling bikes and after this summer,im selling my nc30 and getting a TL1000.
and dont want a ducati yet even tho i could buy a 2nd hand one.

plus if you buy a 600,you could buy a decent one for 3300 MAX and save about a grand on insurance and buy sum decent leathers and lid.:saint:

Remember no point having a fast bike and no protection.
