Carbon tail

Fantastic project Sharpey !

I have an as yet unpainted carbon DP tail, the same as yours was, for my 999s and cant decide on the paint scheme.

You seem to have had yours painted by Jason beautifully, but theres no carbon showing through ??

Was this deliberate ?

Decisions Decisions !

Steve

Sharpy G 01-Nov-2006 18:03

look again, there is some carbon showing my friend
subtlety, to match with the original carbon on my R
just the returns in the vents and around the seat pad
and yep, good job by Jay
G

got a nice R carbon top fairing for sale, would look peachy with your seat unit

SlowLearner 01-Nov-2006 18:10

temptation !

ooerr thats not the painted one in the earlier pics is it ??

How much ???

( looks in wallet, only moths there presently !)

Its a mint original 749R/999R 04 top fairing in Red

around £1000 from Ducati

open to a reasonable offer

SlowLearner 01-Nov-2006 18:20

thanks G

Thanks G, I will give it some thought.

Not convinced it would look right without a full carbon fairing, i only have an S not an R.

Shall post pics of my carbon tail once its painted, probably get Jason to do it if he can fit me in lol !

Steve

Blimey!!! A bit pricey. Are they worth it.

Sharpy G 15-Nov-2006 08:27

Pro-V want like £200-250 to do this and their kit reverts to only 1 cable

So I thought this was a better option

I thought there was a consencus that on the road it's a bit of a wasted thing.

Don't care, I'd still have one!

Now ... which sells for more, a liver or a kidney?

Not a lot, Graham!

I've just got the standard 999 twist grip, which is fine for pootling ... but it's a real pain on trackdays and some of the more spirited Sunday Morning Runs I've been on. The single cable conversion has never appealed to me, but now I know that there's a quick-action twin-cable version ... ooooohh!

Anyway, the next purchase for the 999 I make is earmarked for your attention (you may recall). But before that, I need to pay for my 750 re-build, a service for the 750 and a service for the car. :(

SlowLearner 15-Nov-2006 13:28

a bit of quick action !

I too talked to Pro-Twins about the single cable conversion, was put off as they 'reprofile the throttle cams' or similar which makes the change irreversible ??

So this twistgrip sound ideal.

As a complete numpty could someone tell me how hard it would be to fit ( i have the workshop manual and only today changed my rear brake pads but its been a VERY long time since i was in any way handy with a spanner !)

Steve

Sharpy G 15-Nov-2006 13:46

shouldn't be too bad from what I can see as the throttle unit is separate from the switch gear.
just 2 bolts and some cable jiggling I think

but I stand to be corrected/advised

Unless Pro-Twins have changed their throttle mod, they simply replace the throttle on the 749/999 with one off a 996, hence the single cable. It also requires a longer cable. I believe the parts are approx £70. The rest is labour.
