749R 6000m/12 month service £689.20 plus vat The reason the 749s and 749r 2004 are so high is because if closing shims need to be changed then the cylinder heads have to be removed as they use race type taper collets on these two models only. The good news is that Ducati are expecting nearly double the mileage before any of the closing shims require changing so its highly unlikely that anyone should end up with a bill anywhere near the maximum cost shown,problem is dealers quote the figures from the book without explaining things |
All R models should have belts every 12 months/6K miles whichever is the sooner according to Ducati schedules. A good dealer will let you see the schedule. The service is heading for 10 hours labour. Don't try comparing boggo cars with a 999r. Does your boggo mobile out 150 BHP per litre, get revd to 11k? and to get at the oily bits you don't have to take the bodywork or petrol/diesel tank off. Most Franchised car dealers charge similar if not higher rates than Franchised Ducati dealers. Its just that yer average boggo mobile only takes a couple of hours or so to service and has much longer intervals for the reasons stated above. If you must compare Ducati R model servicing with cars try something like an Evo Mitsi. Service every 4.5k miles, to really set your wallet back how about a set of brake pads all round £600 plus. On average very similar if not higher servicing costs. You can try non gen parts in some areas e.g aftermarket brake pads or specialists but from what I have seen the good specialists don't charge a great deal less than A Franchised dealer. Choose someone you are happy with and if they give consistent good service stick with 'em You can't run a Mitsi/Fazza/ on Peugeot 106 Money, so you can't expect to run an R on C90 money. I used to use a Franchised dealer for servicing a '96 CBR 600 and the servicing costs were not that much less than a Ducati as the schedule was for service every 4k miles. If you want to get your moneysworth out of the servicing make sure you do the 6K every year..........................like it says, get out and ride! Ray [Edited on 6-1-2005 by Ray] |
I have to agree with Ray taking a 12000 mile year the difference in servicing cost between my MS ( 2x6000) & the ZRX1200R I had before (3x4000) is minimal. To get value for your money get out and use the bike as it was intended i.e. ride the thing |

Andyb, The form I have seen specifically mentions R Models. Are you sure there isn't another form for R models? 749/999 std models are belts @ 12k/2 years. Maybe things have changed since the the days of the 748/996/998r but seeing as I saw the form for my 998r and that has the same motor as a 2003 999r I doubt it. I was just as disbelieving originally and its was only when the job card got checked that someone with eagle eyes at the dealer noticed the difference between the job card and the Ducati schedule. To save any form of doubt buy a baby R ,have the kit fitted then its belts every 3000 miles . See its as easy as that -no more do i need belts or not.SORTED !!! Butch |
Try having an aircraft serviced. Every 50 hours and every year in additon, PLUS a real biggy every three years. Our last one was a "normal" one year service - £3800 plus VAT Ducati servicing? pice o' p**s :puzzled: |
