I agree with Gizmo and Keefy B about the practicalities of a machine like that....but it looks so nice I don't care.

Sorry guys but i don't agree, its not competeing with the 640LC, and supermoto's of that ilk; its a different kettle of fish, but Mike is right its a big naked road bike. Given the choice i'd rather have a big road bike of this ilk and a proper full on dirt bike for blasting thru the muck proper, only my opinion.

I just don't get the whole hypermotard, big supermoto thing Shaun, I feel its marketing bullsh't and Ducati are just following a trend. Its not like you can ride it any distance, its too big and heavy to really hoon around on B roads and with no wind shield the windblast with rip you apart at the high speeds it should be capable of, a sportsbike is more comfotable and faster for A road blasting and I can't see what exactly it be used for that a 525 or 640 can't do better, other than huge wheelies of course and looking the part and being quite cool :)

Take a KTM SuperDuke out and see how long you keep it, my mates selling his after 5 months just cos he can't do anything on it other than rip around for short distances but gets left behind when we are on the superbikes. I sold my KTM Duke cos it wasn't a usable bike other than in winter , bought the Mulit cos it did everything reasonably well as have lots of other superbike owners. The hypermotard is a nice toy to have but I'd need a few other bikes in the garage first, maybe if I had a Monster and was looking to replace it I'd consider one. Its maybe different for me as I've got roads I can use a superbike on and places where the smaller supermotos are fun as well. Horses for courses and all that...

Valid points Mike, the reason i bought the 950 Adventure over the better looking 950 Supermoto was the fairing, bigger tank etc for practicality and the ability to cover more miles and the prospect of 'doing the Sahara again'

I think that new Ducati will sell really well, like the original Monster did, especially in Europe, and it'll make a great bike for poseing round the towns and just looking GOOD. I can imagine a lot of them parked outside cafes/bars and bistros in sunnier climes than ours. It will be a great lifestyle accessory as well as fun to ride. From a marketing point of view bigger is often better (even if you can't use all of it properly).

I think Ducati need this bike to boost sales, the Monster has been traditionally a big seller for Ducati for years, and i feel this is the new Monster, which in itself was never as practical a bike as some others.

Agreed Shaun, I can understand thet they need bikes to sell but I'm not certain that SM market is that big or sustainable, i'd think Ducati aren't either hence this is just a "concept" showing. Theres already a press backlash on supermotos about how useless they really are, big supermotos have fewer uses. Like you I looked at the SM and Adventurer before I replaced the multi, still ended up with a multi though. Might have been different if the new GT1000 was around. As monster replacement its flawed as well, the Monster has a low seat height, is perfect in cities and looks different, a tall heavy supermoto won't appeal to a lot of those customers :(

its an expensive toy and if anyone can sell that idea its Ducati so it'll be a success :)

Like Couchcomando said in another post, it's not really a Motard, it's a road bike in the same vien as a Monster or Multistrada and if it's as good to ride as either of those then bring it on :)

Being selfish, and with the inside leg measurement of a giraffe i never give things like that a thought.

the only reason I said it was cos I can hardly touch the ground on a multi, on my Duke I used to aim for the kerb and hope I could touch that :)

I'd still like a play on one, be good as a courtesy bike for a day but i doubt I'd part with cash for one.

I'm sure if Ducati released the bike tomorrow sales would go through the roof.
Just see how many secondhand ones would be up for sale 6 months later tho!;)
